contrary to the odd claim earlier that he might want conscripts to die for some PR reasons

It wasn't a claim that is what he might want - it was broadly postulating possible takes - as mentioned it would be playing with fire to do so. You do seem to have a strange way of seeing absolutes in things where people are plainly discussing in a more broad fashion.

Saying that Russia hasn't used to their best would be like saying the British SAS are just a bunch of fresh conscripts

No one is saying Russia hasn't used their best, that is just Dowie misrepresenting what has actually been said. (I've multiple times mentioned the use of stuff like the 4th guards and various special forces elements, etc. so it is a kind of strange take to then assume my posts are saying that on Dowie's behalf).

With Russia keep issuing threats to nuke people I just hope our leaders aren't taking the rhetoric too lightly.

If things keep being repeatedly said, even if propaganda lies, the people listening will eventually believe it and someone on Russia's side will hit the nuke button thinking we're about to invade them.

One of Russia's tactics building up to the invasion was to repeatedly build up, draw down (or at least partially draw down) until it was repeated enough some people, even those in government agencies, etc., weren't taking notice any more - even though it was unfolding in front of their eyes.

In respect to the second half of your post in a more general sense that would be a very long term thing - but it is one concern that as time passes Russians would forget the origins of this situation and how things used to be and be more inclined to blaming the West for their problems. You aren't really going to get someone individually hitting the nuke button.

But who would they nuke?

They can't afford to hit a NATO member, because Russia would be wiped off the map faster than you can say 'борщ.' They'd have to hit an alternative target with no retaliation capacity. But what would that achieve?

During the cold war era Russia/Soviets had a much different mentality to the West - though I think much of it was more fantasy than reality. The West very much sees nuclear war as "game over" with some half-hearted thoughts of key government figures bunkering up and individuals hiding behind the sofa during a nuclear blast while Russia was thinking of surviving and rebuilding - with extensive programs (many of which were far less developed in reality) for building huge underground complexes for large numbers to survive and re-emerge from.

Some of that was revisited in more recent times with supposed large scale nuclear drills (the reality a lot less impressive) - I do hope Putin isn't under the perception, due to being surrounded by yes men, that the country is in a far better state to "win" a nuclear war than the reality.

"win" a nuclear war LMAO. Even if people survived, everything world wide would be decimated.

'existensial threat' to me is like genocide of your people. I suspect to that isn't the same thing Putin sees it as.. More likely to him he perceives himself as Russia so if he is gone, then Nuke away.

The reality would be somewhat different - but the big Russian/USSR bunkers had stores of things like agricultural supplies, tractors, etc. with the notion of re-emerging in the long run and rebuilding.

They’ve really not done well around Kharkiv, ordinary vehicles being abandoned without being disabled/destroyed is bad drills in general but abandoning an armoured command vehicle in tact is just… WTF!

(video doesn’t contain an attack or anything, just an abandoned relatively unscathed vehicle)

Knowing the Indian mentality more likely they're hanging on to any spare grain waiting for the price to go up...

Lol that’s a bit harsh! Surely more just basic national interest as per when they suspended vaccine exports during the pandemic.

Ukraine War Spreads to Turkey - The Sea Mine Threat: Apparently Russia is accusing Ukraine of positioning 420 WW2 Soviet era YaM sea mines and YarM river mines around Odessa that have drifted south around Turkey.

Ukraine War Spreads to Turkey - The Sea Mine Threat

Probably one of the reasons there is heavy maritime patrol aircraft coverage off Romania and Turkey lately.

Might have been CovertShores - someone posted satellite images a few weeks back of a Russian ship involved in de-mining operations - though it seems a bit odd if they intentionally set them adrift as it would endanger their own operations as much as anything else.

Few weeks back I was chatting to a guy from Odesa who was involved with setting up the defences - had some interesting stuff to say - there was a lot more than mines awaiting any Russian ships.
