On post #2417 I said one thing is certain, don't believe bellingcat. Its bellingcat who give the analysis. Their publications and the owner are heaped in controversy. They also have clearly a very strong anti-Russia bias.

I cant trust the piece for that reason, they have an agenda.

So you think those satellite images released by the Russian MoD (you can check this yourself) are real?

One might suggest that Bellingcat are only anti-Russian because they are in favour of the truth.

Or as I read on a site I dare say we may mutually read, they are funded by the FO and in fact are a "propagandistic" portion of "media".

An interesting little read and actually a lot more on Bellingcat can easily be found with a quick google. Generally, citizen journalism falls below accepted standard for professional journalism.

I haven't checked the images no and given neither you nor I are an expert in review and veracity checking of satellite imagery I think we are ill equipped to form a concrete opinion. Instead we are clearly going to slip back to our default perceptions of Russia.

So you haven't seen them yet you're automatically writing off someone else's opinion on them.

I'd consider that to be a pretty stupid and ignorant thing to do!

Seriously, they're bad. How Russia thought anyone would believe them is laughable.

I'll have a look, but again, unless you are an expert at this type of thing how much can you add other than to parrot what's there by other vested interests?

I though US satellite footage of refineries looked dodgy as hell in pictures but seemed legit.

Which country owned the Satellite that took this image?

Why are you assuming you need to be an expert? Any competent person should be able to do it.

Do you need to be a forum expert or English language expert to write on here?

Heck, some people are barely competent at that...

The 'satellite' was Russian

That mentions the time stamp intercept that the Ukrainians proclaimed was proof.

No, actually to read and understand a lot of satellite imagery you do need training.

I've read the satellite was not Russian but a "foreign" one

Again, we do not have enough information to make a full assessment. Much like people instantly doing what the BBC tells them and blaming Russia for the aid convoy incident.

Why would I surely not do that? The latest report, compiled by EXPERTS, concludes that it was launched from a Russian launcher that came out of Russia and went back in to Russia. It was launched from Russian backed rebel territory.

Either Russia has no control over its own armed forces, no control over its own territory or...is complicit.

It was more than likely Russian technology (BUK launcher plus missile), but that does not mean that Russia (Federation) was behind the attack. Do we blame America for every person killed by US made weapons and instantly imply the US (nation) is responsible? No we don't.

Remember the Ukraine shot down a civilian plane in 2001 and didn't comply with investigations.

I'll say again...the vehicle that launched it was pictured coming from Russia in the days prior to the launch and returning straight after.

Again, you want to hear that actually a Russian made missile system shot it down. That is the most likely scenario based on evidence. Sadly, the complicity of Russia the state or its forces is severely lacking and backed by dubious sources.

No. It's what I'm reading in a third party impartial report.

Where is the evidence the Russian state and armed forces are conclusively involved?

Sadly when nations start throwing **** nobody comes out smelling of roses.

My view is open to it being more likely rebels shot the plane down. Now we need to ask the questions:
- why?
- who?
- what did they seek to gain from the action?

That is a deeper level of reasoning. Anybody can cast blame but in any trial motive has to be established. Why that plane and not (at a guess) 20 others reachable that day?

Jesus are you struggling to read?

I've pointed out there are three options.

Two of Russian incompetence. One of collusion.

Read the thread and you'll see it was earlier supposed that it resembled a Ukrainian military transport jet.

Raoh - put the shovel down, there's a good fella. This is where you normally switch your argument to "Russia have been a bit naughty here, but the US are just as bad - if not worse!".

Russian missile from an area controlled by pro-Russian Ukranian rebels.

Doesn't take long to join the dots on that one.
