I can never keep up with what Erdogan is up to, for the most part he seems to like playing both sides, not sure why now he's suddenly deciding to back the Ukraine ownership of Crimea.

Maybe he sees the war isn't going the way Russia wants it to, and he wants to put himself on the winning side?

Well it's impossible to spin that any other way so fully expect the **** Kremlin-approved broadcasters going mad calling for Turkey to be flattened for making it impossible to holiday now they've lost Crimea and Turkey.

It’s good to hear the major players in NATO now talking about the return of Crimea. They must be starting to believe it’s possible. It seems like the only end to this - gain the territory back, arm Ukraine to the hilt so that Russia can’t bother them again and then bring them into Europe/NATO.

Starting to feel less concerned about nuclear war however wow, this is really going to be raging on for a long time isn't it. :(

Surely the Russians will realise at some point there is no point trying to push on as Ukraine is literally backed by so many countries.

I think the view in the Kremlin is that the West's support will dwindle and buckle over time. That Western Europe, in particular, doesn't have the stomach for high energy prices over winter and the war's impact on inflation. That warm words will give way to "pragmatism" and countries that back Ukraine now will start pressuring it to accept a deal that surrenders large amounts of territory to Russia.

Its a wrong view, maybe a few of the ex soviet states will cave and push for something that is tantamount to surrender, (but not worded as such) and Germany of course will do whatever is best for Germany by trying to wangle nord open again. Best ting would be for a fishing trawler to break it to prevent that from happening....

Agree. The war is a stalemate, and that doesn't look like changing soon.

I think Russia is praying for economic issues causing unrest and forcing european politicians to fear for their jobs, and weakening support for Ukraine to no more than words.

As winter arrives, we will find out whether this is the case.
