Suprised he doesn't go now with Europe struggling to deal with their Covid surges, sentiment for the people wouldn't be high in wanting to go to war in addition to dealing with lockdowns and infections

Russia is hit harder than the rest of Europe.
Wouldn't be shocked if they spin the migrants/refugees/whatever at Belarus's border as coming from the EU and then blame those migrants for bringing in the virus.

I didn't know this, haven't really been following Covid apart from what's reported in the news which seems to be solely focusing on the Europe surge

They'll annexe the eastern half of the country the part thats russian-settled and russian speaking and the area that launched the attacks against the rest of it, the writing was on teh wall when the western pro-european part rejected the election that got the eastern origin, rusisan-supporting, Putin-backed premiere and booted him out of office. Putin can't control the place by proxy like Byelorus so he'll do it directly instead. He'll put in a puppet no doubt. Or maybe he'll simply annexe it like Crimea, we'll see.

I think there's a world of difference between pretentious, ineffectual attempts at regime change and a legitimate threat on our doorstep being emboldened by a lack of an appropriate response.
For the latter I should think such whining ought to be ignored.

If only we'd had decades to move away from natural gas from Russia...if only.

The west are pumping in plenty of weapons and munitions plus helping to train troops irc
Outside of that it will take some balls to confront Russia, just because of the nukes.
It's silly to think that the British army is cutting it's tank fleet, it's artillery is woefully dated and lacking in meaningful numbers, two crucial things you need especially when dealing with a peer on peer advisory.
But as usual it's okay, we never go to war alone and we can trust the US to do much of the fighting etc for us and Europe as a whole.
