It's not that I enjoy seeing humans suffer or be killed, but more out of a morbid curiosity as to what is happening out there, we've never had such a conflict where footage has emerged almost in real time for us to see and it's offering an insight into war like never before. It is also interesting to see two relatively modern equipped countries go at it because again this hasn't happened in such a long time.

The cheap option would be lazer based anti air systems, but these aren't quite ready for prime time, and they can't operate without power, but once you have one, the cost of shooting something out of the air is small.

Also lazer limits your range and where you can place them due to line of sight, there isn't really any alternative to hitting targets at long range other than a big ass missile and big ass missiles are expensive. The patriot system's missile cost $1mill each and have a 160km range, the larger s400 system has a 400km but its missiles are $5mill each

The ideal solution would be some Israeli iron dome setups, which are 1/30th of the cost. I guess they will use patriot however for high value shoot downs such as cruise missiles or aircraft rather than cheap munitions.

The Israelis are gonna eventually replace iron dome with iron beam, which is a lazer system.

Rumour is the US is only sending Patriot now because the Iranians are sending long range ballistic missiles with 700km range to Russia.

In other missile related news; today the US approved just the 3rd country to get access to the Tomahawk, and that is Japan. The US will send several hundred Tomahawk missiles to Japan, which can be used to hit China if it ever comes to it
