Just when you think Russia can't do anything that will surprise or sickening you any further then it already has you stumble across articles like this.

No body no payout. No payout no Lada.

I wonder what the priority is for Ukraine I'm terms of counter offensives. You would think going south and threatening Crimea could potentially end this whole war, I can't see how Putin could survive losing Crimea even with his power base. Cutting the Russian's off by taking back territory in Luhansk would be easier as the area is less developed.

Lada? Last I saw they were handing out cakes to the parents of fallen soldiers by way of compensation..

The obvious thing to do would be to push south and sever the land bridge to Crimea and getting the Kerch Bridge out of action again. You don't really want to do the obvious thing though.

Crimea is quite a large area (bigger than Wales) it could take a very long time to fight through that area.

So basically a wall then russia will simply keep sending over long range missiles.

Crimea is a large area but only connected to the mainland by a narrow bottleneck where Russia have been making their defences ready for the best part of a decade. Worse, even if they can punch through that first bottleneck there's another a few dozen kms further in. Then, even if they can punch through the rest of Crimea, Russia has a large military base at Sevastapol making an ideal place to mount a rearguard action from. Meanwhile, Ukraine doesn't have the sea power to mount an amphibious assault, whilst Russia does have the sea power to keep weapons and soldiers flowing into the region even with its bridge connection severed.

It's difficult to see how Ukraine can take Crimea back at all, let alone as an early target.

Yes, I think it will be a slow seige; Ukraine will want to cut the water off again.

They could wear them down if the US keeps supplying long range weapons though. Won’t be quick. It’s difficult to see an ‘out’ in this war.

Crimea by that time will have one road in around the back.

The Russian Navy in Sevastopol is crippled already so adding further pressure it will just collapse. As the for defence lines from the main road.... Dont go down the main road.. Parachute people in, small land hop to the North coast.

ITs the best bargaining chip Ukraine have (unfortunately)

Cut off the water, cut off the bridge and blow up every ship Russia sends there.

It will fold eventually.

I find it strange how slowly the country is turning to full mobilisation - even with considerations for not changing things so fast there is a pushback from the population. Like with the mobilisation but leaving borders open so that 100s of thousands could simply leave.

Unfortunately it looks like there is only one direction of travel though - eventually Russia will be mobilising its population and industrial capabilities to a military first footing and restarting the ability to produce military hardware and the materials for entirely domestically.

Cut off the water, cut off the bridge and blow up every ship Russia sends there.

How do they do that? Yet alone do that before reclaiming the coastal land from the Dnipro to East of Mariupol? I hope they can find a way to surprise me, but I personally don't think Ukraine is going to reclaim Crimea unless Russia descends into some kind of internal crisis.
