Surely Ukraine aren't dumb enough to do this? more outlandish numbers from Russia?

I'm in favour of realism as much as possible, not seen any evidence to support this strike occurred.
This is for the Russian media, a bit of propaganda for the Russian public to feel good about.

When The Russians get bad news, give them good news but twice as good.

To some extent you need to be putting your troops close to each other in order to have them ready for deployment, but the claims here seem unrealistically high. However, something I noticed in the reports is that Russia says it is making these claims based on "reliable intelligence". Now I think the idea they're spreading the male cow poo around is more likely, but the possibility that Ukraine is successfully delivering duff intelligence to the Russians is an interesting one.

*Russia says it killed over 600 Ukrainian soldiers in rocket attack - Reuters
*No Sign of Casualties at Site of Strikes Russia Says Killed Hundreds of Ukrainian Soldiers - Reuters
- Reuters reporters visited the two college dormitories Russia's defence ministry said had been temporarily housing Ukrainian servicemen close to the front line of the war at the time of the overnight strike.
- Neither appeared to have been directly hit by missiles or seriously damaged. There were no obvious signs that soldiers had been living there and no sign of bodies or traces of blood.
- Some of the windows were broken at Hostel No. 47, which stood by a courtyard that had a big crater in it.
- The other building named by Russia's defence ministry, Hostel No. 28, was entirely intact. A crater lay about 50 metres away closer to some garages.

Sure but I think they'd not be putting 600 in one place all at once like that, especially after they've seen how such large groups are vulnerable in the Russian forces.

I'd say 100 troops in close proximity would be the max you'd want really.

Do you reckon we can arrange to send a Ukrainian medal to this Colonel Roman Enikeyev?

I wonder how much reach these kind of videos have in Russia? Are Russians seeing how cheaply the lives of their sons are being spent?
You only have to find someone who is willing to travel to "heaven".

Their response is that they are not into politics and are small people(not lepricons) and cannot change anything. The majority of population are very patient.

Difficult to know the truth of this one - 2 of the recent Russian videos from Soledar area people have pointed out there are a couple of captured Ukrainians in one, and a small number of dead Ukrainians in another and the rest are DNR soldiers slightly dressed up to look like Ukrainian.

We know the truth, Ukraine had bragging rights to a new year massacre, Russians wanted to look like they went one better.

They need to give the captive viewers something to feel better about.

Its successful propaganda even if western audience doubt it the very fact people are talking about it sows a seed in peoples mind. Domestic audiences will lap it up of course but its part of a wider war of disinformation thats been sown throughout the world and people will believe what they want to believe whatever the evidence says to the contrary.

Is Russia still classed as a democracy? Chinas population seem to have it freer.

Russia isn't at the level of surveillance, etc. of China, neither do people tend to disappear in the same way as can happen in China, though freedoms are increasingly disappearing.

According to US general, Pat Ryder, the version of Bradley going to Ukraine is the M2A2 ODS - these are most similar to what the U.S used in the gulf war/Iraq but the "ODS" means they have been upgraded with lazer and gps targeting (as an example you can station your m2a2 ods behind the front line and use its lazer to paint an enemy position, the Bradley then spits out the gps coordinates for the target which the crew transfer to friendly artillery

As for training it looks like training on the Bradley will take place towards the end of January and be completed by end of February; around 500 Ukranians will be trained

Coming up on the anniversary of the invasion, 20th Feb. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a major push from Ukraine around that date.
