We should do the same.

If we were willing to fund the fairly large tax increases it would require, or alternatively cut funding to other things instead, to find the extra £15 Billion (approx £465 extra from each tax payer) then I'm sure we could easily match France's percentage increase but we seem to be unwilling (both Government and "the people") to do that during the current cost of living crisis, which is probably understandable TBF.

Am I the only one who thinks 14 tanks is a bit 'meh'?

14 Challengers aren't going to win the war that's for sure but if they use them sparingly and intelligently, supporting their infantry in key battles, retaking strategic towns, then they could make all the difference between winning and losing. They're a class apart from anything the Russians can put up against them.

...and there is (just) enough capacity in the Challenger fleet to send another two squadrons worth (28 tanks) if push really comes to shove.

Indeed used in concert with the Bradley's they will prove to be a very potent breakthrough force.

Wonder if they will be up armoured or will the Ukrainians stick reactive armour over them? Will be interesting for sure, the square nature of western tanks surly lend themselves to the bricks more than the rounded t series.

Governments/politicians are there to lead. That often means selling initially unpopular policies to people because they are our long term strategic interest. Otherwise they aren’t leaders, they are just followers.

We desperately need leadership on a whole range of issues.
