Its the nature of warfare though to dehumanize the enemy look how much we hated ze germans after WW2 not as much as the french though, the yanks on the other hand didn't have that mentality at all. Well nowhere near at much as us at anyrate for them it was a faraway war and their homes weren't being bombed or people being rounded up and shot. It doesn't make it right but its what happens.
I didn’t say we didn’t I said we shouldn’t dehumanising people leads to doing the same things for which we condemn others. The majority of people in Russia or any other country are no different to the rest of us they are all just trying to live there lives, make end meet and enjoy what they can.

The US still has quite the stockpile though; not an amazing amount but total number of atacms in stock is greater than the combined number of atacms fired in the gulf, Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The US could send Ukraine a few hundred missiles if they really wanted to; after all the US is still selling them - just a few weeks ago they made a new multi billion dollar deal to send not just HIMARS launchers but also some Atacms missiles to a nato country

Obviously limits to what I know about that is going on behind the scenes but I think it is crazy how slow the West is to responding defensively to this situation including in that ramping up ammo production. I could kind of understand it a few months ago when there was some hope this would all blow over once the Russian forces got a bloody nose but it looks like we are in for the long haul now and this situation is only going to deteriorate.

The more we fall back on the nuclear deterrent the higher the chances it comes to them actually being used IMO.

I don't know how many more times the lesson needs reinforcing - a strong and prepared West, a well supplied Ukraine, is the best possible chance for peace in Europe our time - Putin smelt weakness and went for the jugular and will do it again - Russia is far from a spent force yet.

My thoughts are that from a simple cost benefit analysis point of view, the simplest, cheapest and most sensible option, is to supply the hell out of Ukraine, F16s, tanks, long range missiles - the whole nine yards.

For Russia to be defeated in Ukraine, by Ukraine is by far the best possible outcome for all of us. It’s going to be cheaper, quicker, safer and better for the world - for this to be resolved on Ukrainian soil.

I’m worried about a situation where western governments become paralysed and locked in a cycle of procrastination, meanwhile Russia starts to turn the tide and make gains.

If Ukraine lose and are overrun, that is going to be a a thousand times worse for the west and the former eastern bloc countries. It’s going to plunge us into a new era of uncertainty, the costs of dealing with it will spiral - if it can be dealt with at all, and it will all have happened because the west relied on half measures, or were two slow or couldn’t agree.

Unfortunately western politicians can't see past a few months in advance and to me are still clinging on to Russia just....giving up.
