China must be loving this. Russia is crippled by sanctions, her forces are bogged down in an unwinnable war, and the West is helping to bleed her military dry.

This is an early Christmas for Xi. If he plays his cards right, China will be dictating terms to Russia within the decade.

Russia is basically China’s bitch now. Suddenly the West’s threat has squarely shifted from Russia to China.

I’m not surprised. China aren’t the friends that Russia hope they would be. I’m sure China look upon Russia as desperate.
hopefully this is the case............. maybe it is me tinfoil hatting however but if I were supplying a country that was hated by the entirety of the west with gear, I am thinking part of the arrangement i would make would be that officially i would want it getting out that i refused, whilst privately, if the price was right maybe i would have an under the table arrangement.

China doesn't view Russia as it's adversary, Russia is an ally to China against Western Imperialism, why would China want a weak Russia? That's like saying the US wants a weak UK.

I will say that it's possible Russia will learn from this and start the war manufacturing a new with new tech, and engage more in this with China. Will see what the future holds.
It wont happen again, Ukraine will join NATO after this and have the one for all protection NATO brings.

Putin has had his one shot of reclaiming the old USSR and failed miserably.

Not only failed but put his country back 20 years, the west will never accept them now and sanctions are here to stay as long as this regime is in charge.

Getting rid of Putin isn't enough, their needs to be a pro western leader, fairly elected for that to change, even then it would take time.

I do have sympathy for the younger Russian generation, they were living the western way, iPhone, BMW's, Nike etc, a normal life you could say

Now its all taken away from them, many are actually probably dead in a trench somewhere in Ukraine.

Despite what Putin says the sanctions will start to hurt, harder and harder each month when that deficit keeps growing, 34 billion last month and getting bigger every month.

Brics currency cant stop that, they will just be stuck in their own little bubble.

No, but they're not best buddies either. Sino-Russian relations have oscillated between friendly, cordial and openly fractious for the last 500 years.

Russia is an ally to China against Western Imperialism, why would China want a weak Russia?

They are currently cordial, but only because it suits them. It doesnt matter if they want a weak Russia or not, now Russia has exposed itself as not being the powerhouse it portrayed, they are ripe for exploitation by China. I imagine China is relishing the thought of having the upper hand in their relationship, with the benefits that brings over Russia resources.

That's like saying the US wants a weak UK.

If it was in the US's interests, you don't think they would?

This has got to be fake news, Putin is now sending out T-55's from early 50's. Is he also planning on raising the draft age to 90 to find crews with the experience to use these things?!?

But from their POV its simply all they have and better than nothing.

They have lost so much that they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel, don't be surprised when they are replaced with T34's

Oh make no mistake about it, Xi is rubbing his hands with glee, Putin has gone to him cap in hand, he better get a good supply of Vaseline.

You are applying Western thinking to this. China sees a lot of land to its north and those lands as well as being somewhere for its population to expand into are full of things China needs. China doesn't have allies as we do, we don't exploit ours with a view to making them subservient and taking what we want from their lands, China does exactly that, see Africa. If they play their cards right they could have Russia so dependant on them that it will have no choice but to give up resources in those lands to China, if not the lands themselves.

Russia is useful to China now but China isn't going to have Russia back as allies do. If it can exploit Russia it absolutely will.

What are you basing that on? Russia is a great source of natural resources for China, they aren't looking to land grab. How would that even work against a nuclear armed Russia? You lot just makes things up because you want them to be true, ignoring whether they are actually true or not.

I would say they're allies, maybe not in the same degree as the UK is with France or America, but they are allies.

Whoop de do, a treaty, they last as long as they are convenient. Plus that expired in 2022 :p and has only been extended 5 yrs.

There is plenty of disputed land that Russia currently owns that China still sees as theirs. Exactly like Russia does with Ukraine.

At this point with Russia as weak as it is, why would China bother with the tiny island of Taiwan when instead they could go north and take back the whole of outer macnchuria?

You think just because of a little 2001 friendship declaration they aren't forgetting Russia stealing a sizable % of China's land?

Now would be their best opportunity for a land grab in the near future especially if the Russian govenment disintegrates, nukes or not.

Sounds like a great story for a new Command and Conquer game and a complete fantasy, in real life China isn't interested in invading Russian territory, when China is being encircled by the US, why would it pick a fight with it's most powerful ally and enemy of it's biggest rival? These posts are really silly

They won't have to. In 10-20 years, I'd wager the area would be mosty populated by Han Chinese (which Russia is actively encouraging due to their lack population in the area) and they'll do a Russia and setup fake referendums with their intention to join China and Russia won't be able to do a damn thing considering they'll probably not even exist in their current form.
