How does it affect people in Texas? They care about human trafficking from South America, the Cartels, illegal immigration, drugs, gangs. Russia and Ukraine? Couldn't care less mate
Read what I said! I wasnt so much as disagreeing more commenting on shortsightedness, and how it will cause issues in the future which will be much more costly. I dont blame the people, its Trump/GoP that are the problem.
USA has had ample opportunity to tackle these issues at home. Besides, the two arnt mutually exclusive. They can still tackle issues at home whilst supporting Ukraine. However, the Oompa-Loompa is much more interested in creating division and furthering his own ambitions whilst cosying up to his buddy Vlad. That said, this isnt the thread to whinge about US politics so I'll leave it at that.

I can say being here, that I have absolutely no problem with going with American interests. What I can't stand is the selfish and toxic nature of the Republican politicians. I can't stand some of the DEM's stuff either quite frankly, as it's bat **** crazy at times, and makes the job of the right so much easier.

I suppose I should never had expected any better of certain GOP politicians on their Ukraine stance given their past behaviour though.

I'll say one more thing on that topic. I dont think either party has the ideal solution. The political system over there seems so crazy. I dont know if its my viewpoint on the world that has changed or the political landscape. However, where I once felt that I would have been reasonably centrist with a slight "conservative" lean to my values, I now find myself questioning that. I guess thats what happens when politics becomes so polarised.
I mean in UK politics I dont feel like any of the parties represents my values anymore. Maybe not to the same extreme, but parties seem so keen to become the polar opposite of the rivals that they have lost connection with the people in my opinion. However, I digress, this is not the topic for such discussion.

This isn't supporting Putin though, Ukraine doesn't affect Americans at all, why shouldn't they want to focus on issues closer to home?

Did you listen to his speech? He was praising Putin again, saying how he only wanted some bits of Ukraine but will now end up with all of it and how smart Putin is.

There are lots of issues that the general public think don't affect them. That is because they/we are short sighted and often politically blinkered. Ridding Russia of the vast majority of its battlefield armaments for a tiny fraction of their yearly defence budget is the bargain of the last 70 years. Also from an intelligence point of view its shown what a paper bear Russia armed forces are. They won't be saying it doesn't affect them if Ukraine had lost, followed by Moldova and then Russia has control of one of the worlds largest food producers plus their energy reserves and will be eying the Baltic states. Sadly MAGA messaging is why not support Russia, its a Christian country and Ukraine is a nazi country.

Hopefully it won't matter and by the time the election happens Ukraine will have either won or have Russia so on the back foot that to abandon them won't be politically feasible.

It's kind of a gift for the Americans... They get to grind down Russia by proxy without sending troops anywhere or 'going to war', and with the help of the whole of Europe.

But Russia isn't a threat to America anyway, and once Russia is "ground down" then they'll just pivot towards the Chinese by escalating with them so they have an excuse to keep spending money on their defence industry.

What's your point?

Russia is a threat to everyone even itself.

Based on their exceptional performance against Ukraine? They present zero threat to the US, the UK, or any NATO member state. Their military is disorganised and corrupt with mostly outdated equipment, they're only a threat to their immediate neighbours where they can perhaps sustain operations, to suggest they're a threat to anyone not on their border is pretty laughable.

Novichok, polonium, Cyber, subversion, meddling in foreign elections, Mali, Syria... Not a threat at all...

If we let Putin run over his "immediate neighbors", then different countries become his "immediate neighbors".

Putin has demonstrated that he will just continue doing this. Stopping him now is less costly than stopping him later.
