If we let Putin run over his "immediate neighbors", then different countries become his "immediate neighbors".

Putin has demonstrated that he will just continue doing this. Stopping him now is less costly than stopping him later.

Continue what, failed invasions? Why should we be scared of Russia? They couldn't take Kyiv, but they'll continue... what?

Crimea hasn't failed...yet.

The primary reason this invasion is failing is because the world is supporting Ukraine as they defend themselves. (Unlike what happened with Crimea) You have to know this, so I get the impression you are not arguing in good faith here.

Putin was "successful" the first time he invaded [Crimea], so here we are again. If he gains anything from this invasion, he will do it again, and so on.

Based on their exceptional performance against Ukraine? They present zero threat to the US, the UK, or any NATO member state. Their military is disorganised and corrupt with mostly outdated equipment, they're only a threat to their immediate neighbours where they can perhaps sustain operations, to suggest they're a threat to anyone not on their border is pretty laughable.

Of course Russia is a threat, regardless of their ability and competence- they have invaded their neighbour and killed thousands of civilians there. That is a bad sign...

As to the "only a threat to their neighbours" thing, they were killing people in Syria recently. Wagner are knee deep in the CAR and Mali, and god knows where else.

Yes because we helped arm and train their soldiers and provided them with up to date intel that helped them defend their lands. The US was telling them and the world that Russia was about to invade and many mocked them, called it fear mongering. Russia if allowed to win would be a threat to all its neighbours and that would include neighbours of the newly acquired Ukraine.

Then you have China and Taiwan issue, if we'd just let Russia roll over Ukraine which is in eastern Europe why would China think we'd do anything to help Taiwan which is half a world away? If it causes doubt in Beijing then that is good for everyone.

Are you that stupid that you think invading a democratic neighbour isn’t a threat?

Not to mention 'ONLY' wanting a piece of a sovereign nation. What would Trump say to 'ONLY' giving up some of the property and land of the USA in a deal because otherwise Russia would invade.

He is pandering to his idiots like usual, and pretending he is the greatest person ever. He doesn't give a **** about Ukraine, because he is too short sighted, but only really cares about himself and his perception of who he thinks he is.

Pretty sure Trumps super smart masterful peace plan is basically "You two stop fighting right now or I'll nuke you BOTH!"

Probably quite an effective stance :)

Here's the Democrat's Sleepy Joe showing his disdain for an alleged orchestrator of the rather theatrical bumping off and dismemberment of a dissident who had become a thorn in SA's side. (Whilst pleading for some cheap oil...).

I accept I am in something of a minority with my personal opinions on Russia, Putin and this situation, so, for the moderator's workload and people's blood pressure's sake, I'll keep them to myself since the last contretemps :)

Pro russian war monitor tries to portray 40 year old night vision goggles as amazing technology that NATO should be impressed by.

This is why the KF51 Panther, Challenger 3 and Abrams X are taking it slow. This is why Russia's T14 tank is fitted with 30 year old french optics.

You can buy better equipment than this in the west as a civilian at a store
