I think what he wants is to introduce mandatory military training for kids coming out of school and then those who are trained up can be called upon first in the event of needing to defend the homeland within a few years after they complete their training and it means there will always be several hundred thousand members of society who recently completed some military training and can quickly be mobilized to defend the homeland.

This is what Finland does and it means they always have around 200k people who can be called up to defend the homeland without needing training because they already know how to use weapons and work in a group

That being said - I'm not sure who can invade Britain though

Nukes kind of make it pointless for us really.

It's just more sad fresh meat for voters to chew on, if we as an island nation that has consistently resisted absorption is being invaded then it's already over and there's nothing to defend.

Everyone not `kids from school` - so that means you Grim going to boot camp.

The UK is and always has been a completely garbage target to invade.

More merit in bringing back national service for instilling a sense of purpose and belonging than saying its for last ditch ground defence.

We're on an island, if it comes to land fighting it means we've lost air and sea control and are completely screwed.

Not to mention any invasion means mainland europe has already gone down the toilet or they're the ones invading us. Neither of which sounds great.

Unfortunately, as someone who has had to hire into defence roles in the past, we wouldn't be able to manufacture enough white feathers.

That will never happen, military service.

Here’s one reason why Russia doesn’t want to get NATO actively involved in Ukraine.

A single B-2 bomber drops 80 500lb laser guided bombs (JDAMs) onto a simulated enemy airbase and the least accurate bomb missed its target by 5 feet. All bombs were inert practice munitions dropped from 40,000 feet which is why you can see where they struck and what they were aimed at.

The USA has 20 B-2 bombers in service.

Yeah I think there would be a bit of an awakening should any advanced nation go to war with the US
Of course it relies on air superiority and/or stealth

This comment summed up my thoughts as well though "Hey guys, this is a once in a lifetime shot. We will be studying the effectiveness of this weapon system for years to come. What variety of potato should we use to film it?"

I'd suspect the USAF had better cameras there but aren't releasing that footage publicly.

What possible reason would there not to from an exercise that was 15 years old when released?
I know technology in regards cameras has moved on but still a smoking crater in a runway is not going to give away anything, so struggling to see what could possibly have been gained by not using a higher res?
