I'll be honest I was just repeating what I was told by an expert I trust and didn't bother to check the math, but I have now and it is correct.
The MoD and BBC both estimate approximately 50k killed as of mid March, that's only 0.035% of their population. Factor in the fact that the Kremlin propaganda figures will be much lower it makes sense that he's right about the people there not really being bothered/concerned by it yet.

As for them not being that bothered by it, suuure, that's why most of the young Russians who could ended up fleeing the country months ago.
It's only one sex/gender that's mobilised and only within a certain age range, discount that a bunch have fled the country already and then it's not necessarily a trivial figure that has died and frankly there's a much larger figure at risk of being mobilised and not necessarily too happy about taking on that risk.
