I found this quite strange considering how many guys they've lost and the pull out of so many western companies, but he pointed out the death toll hasn't even hit 0.01% yet
They've been disproportionally taking people from poorer regions though, as they don't really want those in the richer areas to feel the impact as badly. I think there are some published stats showing this somewhere that I've seen posted here, with fewer (but not zero) people being recruited from Moscow/St Peterburg regions.
I find it strange they can be attacking their neighbour and not really caring about it, but it also shows the Russian mentality. Can you imagine we would quietly get on with invading Ireland without anyone really doing anything to protest it? It's probably different when it's somewhere far away, but close to home is something else.
I don't really expect the sanctions to bite so hard that everyone is living in absolute poverty, but they will cause issues, and the impact may increase as time goes on with new sanctions coming in, loss of trade with the EU, lower gas/oil prices etc. This is all designed to hit the bottom line of the economy and the gov budgets. If Russia runs out of options for tackling inflation for example, then you could really start to see things snowball quickly into chaos.
