Both a Rivet Joint and Aries out today looking at the Black Sea - electronic signal gathering. Lot of chatter about Russia assembling missile carriers out there but I'm guessing the US is trying to determine rather than monitor what activity there is.

It’s been a while since the last missile strike, another must be due soon. A shame Ukraine isn’t given some longer range missiles of its own.

Probably not Ukraine related directly but flight of Typhoons gone warp speed from Inverness towards the Baltics with operational idents rather than typical exercise call signs - dunno if there is a QRA or something.

Advisor to Zelensky says Kyiv is willing to negotiate a peaceful settlement for Crimea with Russia but, Kyiv will only engage in negotiations once it's army has pushed the Russians back out of the Kherson and zaporizhia regions and into the Crimean peninsula to restore the pre February 2022 border.

To me at least it sounds like Ukraine is willing to let Russia have Crimea but for that Ukraine wants the pre February 2022 borders back
Or he is saying what the West wants him to say as in I'm negotiating.

I doubt he is giving up on Crimea and giving it to the Russians that just doesn't make sense.

Crimea will never be Russian, Putin saying do doesn't make it so.

Ukraine hasn't done all this to just let it go considering Russia is not the big bad superpower they claimed to be.

Reports today the US leaning on the Ukrainian government to appear more open to negotiation but still, Crimea I think realistically is something which is going to be decided on down the line in reality rather than ideals, limitations or goals right now.

That is grim, yet inevitable. Crimea is certainly lost, and has been for years. But if Zelensky can get the rest of his borders back, that'll be a great pyrrhic victory.

No doubt fending off one of those ancient Tupolev bombers in case it falls apart over the U.K.

So much for Joe's whatever it takes comments if they're trying to pressure Ukraine to strike some sort of deal with Putin

Nuts, really. I can't imagine the Americans negotiating if Russia took Florida.

LOL some more tensions over the mosque, would be amazing if this causes more widespread infighting between Chechens and Russian troops! Or indeed a bit of unrest within Russia itself.

Possibly but not necessarily, somewhat dependent on whether Putin is still in power should Ukraine manage a successful offensive this spring/summer.

According to you, maybe.
According to everyone else it's illegally occupied.
I think you misunderstood, he wasn't saying Russia should have it, he was saying Russia has it and there's nothing that can realistically be done about it militarily (obviously a political solution may be possible post-Putin).

It's sort of like how Turkey are still illegally occupying part of Cyprus, everyone was up in arms at the time but that time has passed and because nobody has ever had both the power and willingness to do anything about it it's never changed.

What I find strange is Russia moving so slowly on scaling up industry towards military supply even taking into account in some cases they will have to find ways to replace or substitute manufacturing or supply dependant on Western sourced parts or maintenance, etc. it isn't like they lack the skill base to do so - though they increasingly seem to mobilise key people to the frontlines in that respect.
It's sort of comical that Russia put more effort into getting McDonalds back up and running than scaling up tank production/repair lol.
