I've suddenly realised what Putin's "get out of jail free" card is. It's easy really. Blow up a reactor, blame it on Ukraine. Withdraw your troops over radiation fears. Cost the West billions. Radiate a good part of Ukraine. Win, win, win.

Sounds like a plan only Russia could come up with, can't think of a single downside..............

Better make sure you get the wind onside.

The new Kremlin guidelines for his TV propagandists provides some interesting insight

"Do not underestimate Ukraine’s impending counter-offensive and do not spread the idea that Kyiv is somehow not ready for it"

"If the offensive is unsuccessful, it will be possible to say: the army of Russia skillfully fended off an attack that was superior in power"

"If the Ukrainian military manages to take back territories and claim battlefield victories with the help of weapons from the U.S. and Europe, Russia’s losses will be understandable—after all, we were up against the entire West."

"It’s clear there will be problems with the economy, and it’s clear why. Spending on the ‘special military operation’ isn’t going anywhere. people will inevitably feel neglected. It is better not to show in specific amounts how much was taken"

I’m convinced the Ukrainian counter offensive will begin with the farmers. The Russians will wake up one morning to find all their armoured vehicles, artillery and equipment gone, with only tractor tyre tracks in their place. And then from over yonder horizon, the ground starts rumbling as Leopard II’s, Challengers and Abrams advance.

Sounds like they're being prepped to deliver some bad news in the hopefully not too distant future.

He is still a war crime criminal, and will eventually get his ticket, Ukrainians will never forget. It will take 100 years to ease the pain. In that time many more bombs will go off in Russian territory. The pack of cards have been dealt!!!!

100 million dead , for those benefits. Yeah no.
How many saved by building real houses towns cities ?sewage systems, instead of mud huts - medical care for immunisations for cholera typhoid etc etc Education.
Rail roads etc teaching them how to build an economy. look on the other side of the coin.

So your trying to justify colonialisation, and the deaths of 10`s of millions as a `meh the East India Company gave us democracy`. Literally.

back to Ukraine:

back to Ukraine:

Yay doodlebugs reinvented.. only issue is pulse jets are slow, loud and have a massive heat signature. Easy pickings for modern anti-air.

bait drones work

Baghdad had the strongest anti air network in the world in the gulf war and yet it was completely overwhelmed by bait drones released ahead of the jets - anti air missiles took the bait and shot down the drones, had no time to react to incoming HARM and Tomahawk missiles and overhead bombers. Once the missile SAMs were destroyed, all Baghdad had left for anti air was several hundred gun emplacements firing rounds in the air trying to hit high altitude targets at night and it didn't work

There is a more sinister potential trajectory to this if Putin did look for an off-ramp, laying the ground for some kind of scenario where they sacrificed a large force into an engagement against NATO using some kind of concocted situation and using it to sell domestically as NATO escalating causing them to have to withdraw troops to defend Russia, especially the western regions. Putin wouldn't blink an eye at expending 200K soldiers for his own ends.

However I don't see Putin looking for an off-ramp or pursuing any kind of negotiation which isn't complete capitulation any time soon.

On a completely different topic - had a nap earlier and something woke me up - didn't know what - just seen this: https://twitter.com/flightradar24/status/1653527203483734017 A400M flew low over where I live around that time :s (very distinctly noisy plane with the turboprops).

Reports of large explosions somewhere near Avdiivka not sure if ongoing combat or related to these strikes.

Looks like it was related to:

Regarding Avdiivka area, multiple Russian sources confirm an advance up to 1.5km into Russian defensive positions. It is not yet clear where exactly, but it points towards the area near Novobakhmutivka-Troits'ke. Waiting for official confirmation.
