Russian can replace the SU25 but, only with a limited number of much more expensive air craft like the SU34 that would require pilots to be retrained.

Problem for Russia after the dissolution of the USSR the skills and facilities, etc. for the development and production of close air support ground attack aircraft fell outside of Russia and they've not made much attempt to fix that. Out of their domestic capabilities the options are trying to use their F-16 equivalents, something the US found isn't ideal or modified multi-role bombers like the SU-34 which is also far from ideal. They seem to have settled on modifying the SU-34 for the role for now for whatever reason and trying to additionally plug the gap with restarted attack helicopter production.

While I'm sure Ukraine is grateful to final have these longer range missiles I can't help but bang my head against the table knowing just how useful these would have been to the UAF had these been delivered before the start of the summer counter offensive.

The mind boggles, so many deaths for nothing.

Hopefully this time it will help Ukraine break the vatniks

Yeah if her allies had gone all in on military aid in the spring it could have been a very different summer.

There is too much vested interested in keeping Russia tied up in my opinion even at the expense of Ukrainian lives as well as too many lacking vision or ability to see the longer term picture/struggling to wake up from the world they've known for the past 30-40 years.

It was always going to be the long game once the west started giving aid. The longer it goes on the weaker Putin gets. Slowly but surely the reserves will begin the tighter. Already sanctions are hurting that's only going to get worse, Which is why Russia is pushing Brics, India will get a slap at some point as well from the rest of the world.

That only works if sanctions hold up - increasingly companies are paying lip service to them and/or doing business with Russia in a roundabout way and don't see the problem with it and/or countries or entities within countries with looser rules, etc. who are acting as the middleman.

Russia is still managing to get certain French night vision optics despite controls on them, engines for drones, etc.

Yeah, I do think an element of politics has tainted this effort, but not from us though. The UK have been more than willing to move fast and first equipping the Ukrainians with cutting edge kit regardless of crossing lines or upsetting a tyrant.

I’m sure if we had operated F16s or another suitable/serviceable fighter the Ukrainians would have had them months ago.

That's often said but it doesn't make sense to me. By the war being drawn out, it's meant Russia has now had time to go to other evil states to negotiate and as a result, Iran and North Korea will be getting who knows what tech from Russia in return for the ammo Russia needs from them. Iran and North Korea potentially getting advanced fighters, Russian missile tech, maybe even help with nuclear weapons, far outweighs any benefit anyone would put logically put on Russia being tied up.
