See Russia will be increasing expenditure in the military
From sky.

Vladimir Putin has given his official approval to a significant increase in military spending that will see around 30% of fiscal expenditure directed towards the armed forces next year.

The Russian leader signed draft budget plans into law today as Moscow diverts more resources towards the war.

Spending on defence and security combined is set to reach around 40% of all budget expenditure next year.

Spending on defence is set to increase by almost 70% in 2024 from 2023.

The budget plans had already been approved by lawmakers in both houses of parliament, the State Duma and Federation Council.

Not good news if the West dosnt sort it out Ukraine could end up over run before long.

It's all to slow Ukraine need to be given everything now it time to end this war once and for all.

The war isn't going to end, It's all foreplay to the main event where either Putin wins or sticks some nukes around.

Spend was always going to have to go up... a) they've lost a shed load of equipment and personnel that will need to be replaced and b) everyone now knows that their equipment is shoddy, so they'll need to start some development programs. Maybe just signed in but always going to happen.
With the ongoing active war I bet spend vs say 2019 is probably several 100% higher.

Finland has had enough.

I think people generally, but especially some recent posters, overlook or underestimate Russia's ambitions in the Baltics and eastern Europe and how much they are engaging in forms of hybrid warfare with intent - not just the normal levels larger countries or entities engage in to promote their interests.

They've spend considerable resources attempting political and social influencing and military covert operations such as buying land or premises in strategic locations to use as secret bases which would support armed action, etc.

Although restoring, from Putin's perspective, Russia's historical borders is a large factor in it, I can't agree Russia's intentions is just contained to that given everything else going on and has been going on for some years now.

I understand the enthusiasm for Ukraine swiftly joining the EU but I can't help but feel it's not a great idea for the EU itself. Ukraine would be somewhere near the 4th or 5th largest country in the EU, whilst also being by far the poorest, as well as the most unstable and the most corrupt. Positive sentiment will only go so far before it starts breeding resentment among other nations.

It won't be joining until it ticks all the boxes and I can't see that happening for at least 10 years.

Profits before security!
I wonder where it's going...

NB: Trade to Kyrgyzstan from other EU members and the UK is sadly just as bad

China is going to be happy their neighbour is going into a war economy.. both in terms of sales and in possible threat.

This situation seems to be slowly precipitating instability all over the world, I wouldn't be surprised to see more flashpoints flare up in the coming months. And more countries potentially turning to a war economy.

Russia is already spending 30% of GDP on its military, if Putin has signed off on 30% next year it just means the funding will be the same next year, it's not an increase, to say it's an increase is propaganda

Ah okay so the 70% increase from 23-24 is also propaganda as is any defence spending increase ?
The combined military and security budget going up ?

Really?

You think Russia is going to slow down, it's losing tanks faster than they can replace.

Also linky linky for 30 % already getting spent on military ?
