Does make you wonder if our own navy would be just as vulnerable to such tactics.

If China wanted to launch 50 inflatable drone boats with payloads for example.

I have been thinking about that, we have known about boat swarms for years, tactics should have be developed for it. As you can see from the splashed in the video they can detect the drones, they just don't seen to the equipment to hit them.

Phalanx or Sea Cepter "should" be able to hit these, I say that knowing they are for AA use but Phalanx is testing against sea targets and Sea Cepter is meant to have a anti surface capability. So they "should" be ok.

Surely we are only 10 years away from aircraft carriers being somewhat obsolete?

They been saying that for decades, the said that with tanks, IFV's and fighter jets. Its an ever evolving world where there is action and then counter action. Anti satellite weapons could make long range drones unless.

We may see the end of aircraft carriers one day but not today :)

Very much so, our ships are so under armed they are closer to being a lifeboat.

Look at the weapons on a US navy ship and I still think they lack the ability to swipe that many drones out before one hits.

The other day Houthi missile got close to US ship and had to be destroyed by the Phalanx apparently the last line of defence.

I imagine we can't be far away from ships that can launch 1000's of AI controlled drones with a mixture of jamming/guns/missiles etc that would be much smaller and more cost effective.

And they could probably be easily disguised as merchant ships.

Personally don't think drones are the future, it is just in general people/armies are ill prepared for them and lack vision. Even massive drone swarms can be comprehensively destroyed or disabled with existing tech and a bit of innovation.

EDIT: Saying that I can see future drone carriers for stuff like the Global Hawks and other large advanced drones, but they don't offer much other than being unmanned (which is a big one) over aircraft.

More drones to kill the drones, then the drone anti drone drones....

What we need is worldwide sporting event where land mass can be gained or lost based on gold medals every 10 years. No hold bars, have at it with doping the works secretive baby breeding labs the lot.

I was wonder if it was then trying to the missiles.

Houthi Missile Incident

From the link

As mentioned earlier, the decision to shoot down the missile with the Phalanx CIWS appears to be a necessity rather than choice.

But it looks like they got close

Some of Ukraines drone programs are getting very interesting. A unit has developed a multipurpose bomb to take out forward operating positions or to fully demilitarise disabled armour/vehicles beyond the point of salvage. All for a cost of £10 per mission. Impressive value engineering.

We have some concepts that we are going through at present. Long time till introduction though.
