Yes but I'm not the person asking for it.....I actually knew you'd reply with this exactly.....people always happy to spend other peoples money...

I know you find Russians hiding under every comment that you don't like (are they in the room with you right now?) but sometimes it's worth thinking beyond the next comment. Bullying behaviour just stokes the behaviour and attitudes of people on the fringes that tend to throw the baby out with the bathwater.....something exploited by bad state actors.....maybe like.....;)
Facepalm.

Great reply, superb rebuttal.
The Australian governmeent is already spending my tax money on aid to Ukraine, I'm happy with that and I wish they'd send a lot more.

:)

They have spent 900m total approx according to first google results. So the EU has spent 50x on just this round of funding alone than your country and you're saying they should send 200x?

Yes that seems like you want others to spend the money.

Personally as has been pointed out before I'm not in the EU thank god so it's not really a bother and if they want to pay Ukrainian pensions then thats fair. Would be interesting to see them stump up 200bn like you requested.

I think aus has it’s own issues with french sub fiasco, and now having to arm up due to China’s noise.

I think that Australia has a population of 25m approx compared with 450m in the EU.
And 19.35 trilion $ against 1.5 trillion $
So 50x the spend is a bit more than representative but then again Europe is a lot closer.

A relative who's in the forces was telling me he trained loads of Ukrainians.
He was saying they are all conscripts now with an average age of 44, he didn't sound to optimistic about them winning and thinks we (NATO) will be fighting Putin next.

Kinda crazy 30year olds training what's basically old men

Something I don't think is really sinking in is that Russia as things stand have less and less to lose by staying on a war footing, and the more their economy is underpinned by war time production, etc. the bigger the shock to it if things revert back to peace time.

I think the chances of NATO being directly at war with Russia is fairly slim, though not impossible, but I do see an exceedingly costly Cold War 2.0 emerging from this, far more costly than for example what it would take to re-establish and ramp up production of stuff like artillery ammo in an expedited fashion - the stuff that Ukraine desperately needs to have a chance, despite that being a hard one to sell to the general public right now.

What I've been told is Ukraine is conscripting older men who already have families and children allowing younger men to get married and have kids. If they just send young men to be killed Ukraine will make it's already problematic demographics even worse. Reservists are also likely to be older anyway.

My other half has an uncle in the UAF, prior to the war he had been in the army as an officer but retired. When the war started he rejoined as he was experienced even though he was relatively old (not sure how old but she's 41).

The former Russian governor of occupied Sevastopol was detained in the UK, charged with sanctions violations

It's yet again such a surprise that Russians continue to want to live in the West when it's such a horrible place

Some Brit in Russia will be arrested in return. Though why any Brit would still be in Russia is beyond me.

Yes, I see this going back to the Cold War, with Russian threatening and 'at war' but simply an excuse to dictate to the Russian nation.

Agree with your points but I was just highlighting my fact that people are always happy to spend other peoples assets.

Look at the US they are no particular friend of europe. The "battle" between UK and Europe in regards to financial services is just benefiting them. Things moved from London to Europe and then almost immediately to America.

Europe faces the potential brunt of russian aggression, energy problems and proportionally high spending and america donates its expiring equipment.

Europe collectively (not EU) should be careful about protecting their competitiveness as special relationships only go so far...

Interesting, 44 sounds pretty high though? Either they're keeping the young in reserve or have already blitzed through them? Hopefully the former.

Personally I'm glad I'm not in that situation. Got a friend who is Ukrainian extract that at start of war was tempted to go back and right about now is very glad he didn't :D .

That's a lot of Militärhilfe für die Ukraine from Estonia and Lithuania!

Because the politicians of the collective west and US don't want the "razval" (falling apart) of the Rashka. They want the stability...
The republicans have released a report of how many times Biden stopped or not provided enough equipment...
