He obviously wants to get on with quite some response. Somewhat at odds with NATO not being able to get directly involved.
It could be an interesting tone change if they did. Russia wouldn’t dare invade if they thought NATO was getting involved physically. Not going to happen but then I would not have expected the defence secretary to say this either.

tonto enraged - native indian slur ?

can we easily ship in more arms - uk javelins (well they seem to be from Raytheon hadn't realised - franchised ?) will become like the exocets used against us in the Falklands, russians will know origin; for Iraq war, a previous employer was embarrassed by missile debris with identifiable company logos.

Is Boris the Dr. Strangelove type ?

Seems a lot of late night private aircraft and not regular heavy lift cargo traffic out of Kyiv tonight... looks like those who have the means are getting out :s

Be interesting to see if any of them are the same politicians whov'e just basically conscripted their citizens and told them to stand and fight...

Where do you get this from?
The simple reality is that many people do not want manufacturing jobs, they have been convinced to get "better" jobs
We pay more than double the average wage for our factory operatives and struggle to get people to apply.

The majority of our workforce were Brits until 6 years or so ago, most having been there years. Basically pay is good, no one leaves.
When we started needing more though almost all are non Brits applying, and the few Brits we have taken on have been nigh on useless.

I'm not sure what part you're asking the question about.

All I can say is that if people don't have the prior training either at college, school or a previous job then the chances are either they aren't getting hired. Experience trumps education. Over here even if you get the qualification someone with experience will 9/10 get the job. Other countries tend to still respect manual jobs.

I know from my own experience that people were looked down on if they didn't go to further education. So many ended up taking silly courses that they weren't interested in. A lot of students when I was at college treated it like an extension of school i.e. joking around a lot. Because, in my opinion, those people should have been more in to the manual jobs and apprenticeships.

We have an education problem. I know when I left college after doing Computer Studies I found it was useless in the real world as everything was outdated already. Some people aren't academically minded.

Though we're probably both headed off on a tangent here :)

Yeah I did a load of IT stuff - pushed as being the latest and greatest in demand qualifications - by the time I started looking for work a lot of it was outdated (not in itself a problem if you can learn for yourself and use it as a stepping stone) - but a bigger problem was after not many years employers would look at the qualification and be like "what is one of them then?" - in the longer run I didn't want to work in IT anyhow - I enjoy it as a hobby not as a career.

For some reason, the song hotline bling popped into my head reading this :D

It's sad that diplomacy isn't going to work and everyone in the West still believes diplomacy is possible, I think Zelensky finally realised the gravity of the situation he & his fellow countrymen are in, hopefully they can put a good defence but tonight seems to be the night

It's a horrible situation for the country to be in, and all because Putin is fighting shadows of the past as far as I can tell.

If they really do go full scale invasion I really hope the sanctions cripple the Russian economy, make them wonder if it was such a good idea.

If nothing else, I don't think Ukraine will be a pushover, they've likely been preparing for this for a while.
