Agreed. Do we need a new sub forum for this?

At least then we can create sub topics. Right now people are talking about "is it ww3?' why is this happening? oil and gas prices going up?

NATO where are you? etc etc etc
 
But why does it require military action for it to be NATO v Russia.
Surely economic action is also NATO vs Russia.
Totally reasonable to respond with force if someone wrecks your economy imo.
Same for cyber.
 
All this talk of putin saying they will not invade a few days ago.

He was right.

They (in his view) are not invading.

They are liberating a country that has an illegal American imposed government.

The Russians are helping the Ukrainians by ousting an illegal government and putting the rightful one back in power.

That is how the former Putin advisor says that Putin views all this, when he was interviewed on tv earlier.

It's not unlikely, it's almost impossible. Imagine if Russian soldiers start killing NATO troops (either on purpose or by accident). What happens then? Disaster.

Realistically i don't think people do.

Same with all the old guff from the Taliban about not wanting to go back to old times, and a few months later they're pretty much back to their old ways.

Thats not the way it works. Its the equivalent of me crashing my car and then wanting insurance. You join nato and get protection, whilst agreeing to protect others. You don't start getting beaten up and then ask to join the club. Putin will take Ukraine but won't step into Nato.

NATO will not get involved, they can't. If Russia and NATO troops start fighting then all bets are off. It could escalate into WW3 in a flash. NATO would rather abandon Ukraine than risk that - and really who can blame them.

To have any real impact, Russia needs to be categorically cut off from all global markets and finance systems, SWIFT, etc. Any assets linked to Putin or his supporters need to be seized, globally.

FYI that could also lead to WW3, because then the Russians would really having nothing to lose and now they would be desperate as well.
