hehe spare liver (i dont drink, but im sure others will be happy for that :p)

no i dont. i dont know what will be provided, or what i need to take.

im sure when i am there i can buy stuff, but what would i need to take to start my first week there?

and this is for the other to be students. ill update the first post.

Most people take a PC into halls - though a laptop's probably a smarter option as you can e.g. use it on trains everywhere and in UNI itself.

Pc / Laptop
Condoms - better safe than sorry :)
TV
Games console
DVDs
CDs
Hi-Fi

To be honest, simply anything you want. You can take nothing, or you can take loads of stuff. When I moved into halls in my first year I took my PC, DVDs, bedding, food, pans, crockery, glasswear, cutlery, books, loads of stuff.

When I moved into a house in my second year I took a desk, a deskchair, all of the other stuff as well, and just whatever I wanted.

nice suggestion guys.

azagoth.... i dont know. even i am wondering that, but im sure its part of the experiance.

btw, build a comp, or laptop?

Building a laptop is costly and not worth it. :p

PC or Laptop is entirely dependant on what you like. I prefer PCs, so I built a PC as my old one was near death and I needed a new machine for uni. If you prefer laptops, then buy one of those instead.

hehe.

ive never had a laptop, and i doubt ill be locked in my room much, so ill go the way of the laptop. if it dont work out, i can always use my loan to build a comp :p

Try not to flash your cash and expensive stuff too much. I was complacent and burgled in my first year of Uni in halls. Make sure you're stuff is fully insured.

invG birmingham/brunel. still not decided as to which one i want (b'ham is first choice due to grade requirements, but brunel has work placement year)

it will be in halls for first year, i shall see from there.

what was ones most essential item in the first week there?

Hmmmm...I think my debit card. :D

Seriously, first week was a lot of going out etc. so needed money often. :)

For actually at home though, first week essential was probably just bathroom stuff and bedding. My first week was just an intro week to our course, so didn't require pens and paper etc.

how would i get stuff insured?

Endsleigh to contents insurance, and are normally linked to halls...but if not they are linked to the Students Union, which means you get it all cheaper. :)

You can do it online, by phone, or in branch (Bournemouth has a little office for Endsleigh, I don't know if your uni will).
