On another note Tosic scored another 2 goals for his German club tonight

(not that this is me changing my opinion about him being good enough but good to see him doing something other than being completely useless on a football pitch like he's done at United)

So that's the five odd minutes then? Unless we're counting the friendly he scored in, oh and the carling cup game when he came on when the game was over and still nearly scored with a cracking strike.

1. What makes you think it wouldn't? In truth he wouldn't even fetch that much
2. Because they sold Carrick when we came calling, they sold Berbatov when we came calling, they're already covered in the wide positions with Lennon, Bentley, Kranjcar & Rose so could easily use the 20+ million to invest elsewhere in their squad
3. Because Man Utd is the biggest club in England, one of the biggest in the world & Spurs aren't to be quite frank. Add to that he'll have a chance of winning major trophies at Man Utd and playing in the Champions League year in year out. Oh and Man Utd will obviously pay him a lot more than Spurs can

1. Can I see this spreadsheet you have of the amounts players would fetch? Sounds very useful, I'm pretty sure what you think is the right amount and what Spurs think is the right amount (and possibly what Fergie thinks is the right amount) will not agree.

2. Berbatov was different, he was very vocal about wanting to move, Modric seems perfectly happy there. Spurs aren't in dire financial straits so hardly need to sell. Oh and they have the wide positions "covered" with Rose? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the last game his debut? Seems a little premature there.

3. Again you are assuming footballing reasons are the only reasons players make decisions. Not every player wants to play at the top or move club every time a bigger club comes calling. Some players are loyal to the club they are playing for. Maybe Modric dreams of playing in Spain? I don't know, and I'm pretty sure you don't either.
Hhhmmm and I said that where?

Hhhhmmmm, where did I say you did? That part of my post wasn't even directed at you originally. And you cleverly avoided the last bit.

I didn't avoid anything neither of us go down the pub with the player so neither of us know what he's like, you just seem insistent on arguing on every point

But I forgot you're in the camp where play a b & c are past it, player x y & z need selling & the manager needs replacing

Why enter into a debate with your sort at all?

Likewise yours

2. Berbatov was different, he was very vocal about wanting to move, Modric seems perfectly happy there. Spurs aren't in dire financial straits so hardly need to sell.

They didn't need to sell for finacial reasons with Berbatov & Carrick either, and while we're on that point and you see to get all excited when I dont reply to one of your points what about Carrick? If a player who isn't vocal about moving means he doesn't want to move what happened with Carrick?

Oh and they have the wide positions "covered" with Rose? Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the last game his debut? Seems a little premature there.

Again get all excited about me not replying to one of your points yet you completely ignore the stone cold fact that Rose aside Spurs still have Bentley, Lennon & Kranjcar in the wise positions

So a top player like Modric wouldn't want to win trophies or play at the very highest level? If that's the case then I wouldn't want him anywhere near my club

Hhhhmmmm, where did I say you did? That part of my post wasn't even directed at you originally.

Interesting that you used it in a direct reply to me then....

Exactly my point, but I haven't been making ridiculous statements about how he would or would not behave like you have.

But I forgot you're in the camp where play a b & c are past it, player x y & z need selling & the manager needs replacing
I've never said the manager needs replacing exactly, I've said I would like to see what someone else would do with the club, no-one can deny that Fergie has made some really poor choices this season in big games.

So you don't think Giggs, Scholes and Neville are past their best?

What players have I said need selling? I'm far more lenient than most United fans on here, I've always said Nani deserved more of a chance, Tosic deserves more of a chance, Berbatov isn't being used right...

Why enter into a debate with your sort at all?

Ah yes the eternal come back of the person who can't debate something like a mature person "why should I bother with you"

Likewise yours

My what? I haven't been saying certain players would be available for certain amounts. It's easy for fans to come on here and just say "blah blah we should get Villa for 20m" or something like that, when really they've just plucked that figure out of nothing.

They didn't need to sell for finacial reasons with Berbatov & Carrick either, and while we're on that point and you see to get all excited when I dont reply to one of your points what about Carrick? If a player who isn't vocal about moving means he doesn't want to move what happened with Carrick?

I never said they did, but Berbatov was also very vocal about wanting to leave and was hardly popular with the management. Carrick...I don't know, I didn't really pay much attention to him when he was at Spurs, perhaps it had something to do with the incredible profit they'd be making on him in a very short time.

Again get all excited about me not replying to one of your points yet you completely ignore the stone cold fact that Rose aside Spurs still have Bentley, Lennon & Kranjcar in the wise positions

Yeah but come on, Bentley is hardly great, Lennon has had one good season (and even then not a full one) Kranjcar I do like though. Modric is not just a wide player though, and is very different to those four.

So a top player like Modric wouldn't want to win trophies or play at the very highest level? If that's the case then I wouldn't want him anywhere near my club

I don't know, because get this...I don't know the guy. I'm just not going to do what you're doing and say well any player would move to United because they're the best team in England....because that's obviously not the case.

Interesting that you used it in a direct reply to me then....

Actually, I started with to the above post, which was not yours. I quoted you and responded to that, then I continued my post by answering the guy above me as well. And regardless, you're still making statements on how a player would or would not behave based on nothing.

I would bet Carrick will still be at OT next season, less certain about Berbatov though (unless we get Milner and Hargreaves has fully recovered) from the British quotiant if nothing else

Personally dont think anyone can even consider Hargreaves any blame - its not like he ever wanted to be injured, or didnt ever try to get fit again, to issue blame on him is pretty rich (and to sell him now just when he is included in a squad is stupidity beyond belief)

I'm not blaming Hargreaves for anything, he cant help being injured, but the fact is, he HAS been injured for two seasons, everyone could see it wasnt something he was going to be coming back from it in a couple of months so he needed replacing until he was fit.

but you cant just spend another £18m or whatever on another player in the same mould / quality

I totally agree that we needed someone like him over the last two seasons, undoubtedly - but to have two players on the books longterm who do exactly the same thing (rather than cover) isnt going to happen with the club in so much debt, if it ever would.

As for Carrick - well being an Englishman being attracted to the biggest club in England (either ever or at the time take your pick :D), isnt that much of a surprise imo, a continental player imo is more likely to choose a London club and feel more at home there, rather than Manchester (which lets be honest is a pretty horrendous city for English people let alone foreigners). Even wihtout a natural wish to want to play under Fergie

Berba is a little different, and while Utd have tried to use him wrongly undoubtedly, I just dont know if he will ever adapt or tactics will ever be adapted for his style of play

Bring in a top striker to complement rooney and get milner for the middle of the park and that is job done I reckon.

Gary Neville has to go, hes been past it for about 5 or 6 years now. In fact scrap that, hes been poor pretty much forever. I wince when I see him play against quick strikers. I think that next year we should get a new midfielder and striker and place a bit of faith in the youngsters we already have. They will never achieve their potential if they are not given a good chance.

Anyone else think he looks a bit feminine? :p

You've signed Joe McElderry?!

1. What makes you think it wouldn't? In truth he wouldn't even fetch that much

oh dear

yes, we went in due to fergies absolute stubborness. paid WELL over the odds for both players, maybe 100% more than their market value.

why does fergie always need the player ONCE he has already moved to the prem? he could have snapped berba for 12m a year or two before he paid nearly 3 times that value. makes no sense to me.

same with Modric now, why didnt we just buy him first time?!

I just don't see why we can't have club threads with strict rules, just seems like it's a discussion forum and it's something that people want to discuss? Was there a specific reason they were banned in the first place? If it's just baiting and the like then can't the offenders be warned then suspended?

they deteriorate. make it interesting though. looking forward to seeing this new guy play for mexico. luckily they have loads of friendlies lined up.

If you knew anything you would know that Fergie tried to sign Berbatov before he went to Spurs but Berbatov felt he was already commited to Spurs

He then went after him the summer after but Spurs wouldn't sell

He then got him the year later

As for why he doesn't get them earlier maybe a certain Veron & Forlan has made him think twice (and rightfully so) about spending big money on players untested in the Premiership
