United States Grand Prix 2012, Austin - Race 19/20

Just watching the start, it was Grosjean who had a great start where Alonso should have started, of the top 8-10, only Kimi had a bad start on the left, Alonso just had a "Ferrari" start, as in, really damn good, I'm not convinced it made any difference. You really never know what would have happened had Massa been in there, he may have blocked Alonso accidentally, or pushed someone wide and let Alonso sneak through.

Was there anything in the race or post race about Merc and what happened with Schumi? I assume he must have had a problem, he was way too slow, and needed two pit stops, does anyone remember him flat spotting his tyres in qualifying or anything, that might explain it?

What a fantastic race! Fantastic driving by lots of drivers, the Mclaren and Ferrari also had really good pace.

I thought so, but I wonder how much of the excitement was down to the conservative tyre choice leading to low-grip situations? Regardless of that, it's a very nice circuit, there was some great racing and the fans seemed to be really passionate about it. Much nicer to see than those empty grandstands in China, Korea etc. :p

Missed the race but just read on Sky that Alonso gained a place on the grid because of a non existent gearbox problem and didn't have to pass Webber or Raikkonen because of problems with their cars and/or a pitstop?

Surprised there hasn't been the same outcry that monopolised the thread after Vettel got lucky in the last race ;)

At least Ferrari just told it like it was.

Qually press conference.

Q: (Kate Walker - Girl Racer) Question for Seb and Mark: I understand that this is the first weekend or the first race where you are using the new alternators in the race. Do either of you have any reliability concerns?
MW: Good journalism. It's good that you know more than me. I trust the guys, they do whatever they can to make sure that we have the best possibility to have the smoothest Sunday afternoon, irrespective of what parts are on the car, in what area of the car. So I have one hundred per cent trust in them that they're going to do what they can to get us home and they've obviously selected those alternators for a reason and put their best foot forward.
