United States Grand Prix 2012, Austin - Race 19/20

I guess the way he composed himself during the closing ceremony, clapping LH and his words in post interview were good so I take back the cry baby remark.

Wishing for DNF in Brazil, Alonso 1st though :p

If Vettel had the speed to win the race, he would have. Backmarker troubles or not. But he didn't have the speed, and Hamilton did. Which would be why Hamilton was on the top step of the podium. Christian Horner would be better off beating the alternator supplier senseless than whining about backmarkers being on the same piece of tarmac as his star driver.

Great race! BBC actually shown the whole race tonight which was nice.

Really starting not to like vettel or redbull, i hope vettel finally has some bad lick in brazil which will make alonso this years deserving champ.

Fairest result is Alonso/Vettel do something so unsportsmen like they get themselves DQ'd from the championship, Hamilton wins the race and Kimi comes low enough that Hamilton wins the title.

Failing that... its tough really, it seems so so unlikely that Vettel won't finish well within where he needs to win, or I should say, it seems unlikely ALonso will have a car capable of finishing that far ahead of a Red Bull. Realistically Alonso is only going to win if Vettel's car fails, not exactly the best way to see the title won rather than on the track.

Glad to see Hamilton finally win a race...lol at the smug Germany, mind you having backmarkers slow you down would give anyone a ragefit lol.

Anyhow still hoping Alonso manages to grab the title somehow, would have preferred Hamilton to win it but hardly any reliability from his car in the past few races. Was surprised he won his 4th race of the year.

Nice reply from Narian

Narain Karthikeyan insists that there was nothing more he could do to keep out of the way of Sebastian Vettel despite the Red Bull driver blaming him for losing the lead of the United States Grand Prix

Vettel said over the radio that "it's Karthikeyan's fault" after being passed by Lewis Hamilton, explaining in the post-race press conference that lapping the HRT allowed Hamilton to get close enough to attack.

Hamilton passed Vettel on the run to Turn 12 after the Red Bull driver had caught and then briefly become stuck behind the HRT in the sequence of corners from Turns 3-7.

It was clear before the race that traffic could be a problem in this part of the track and Karthikeyan drove in accordance with FIA race director Charlie Whiting's guidelines.

"I spoke to Charlie before the race because I knew a situation like this could come up," Karthikeyan told AUTOSPORT.

"It's impossible to get out of the way in that part of the track unless we drive off the circuit.

"Charlie said that it was absolutely fine not to move over from Turns 3 to 7 so I did not do anything wrong."

Karthikeyan added that as soon as he was through this section and reached Turn 8, he made space for Vettel.

"Once I was through there, I let him past and he overtook me at the exit of Turn 7 into 8," said Karthikeyan.

"You cannot go anywhere else and it's impossible to get out of the way before. You tell me where we can drive off the track?

"If he complains, it's too bad."

To sum up:

Vettel is a winging cry baby!!!

The problem is the slow pace of the HRT (and other back end cars). The drivers are doing the best they can with the machinery they are given.

Also, lol at the hate in here. Wishing bad luck on Alonso stirred up all sorts of argument, but wishing it on Vettel seems to be par for the course. What's the matter, is Alonso not good enough to win on skill alone :p

Is vettle good enough to win without luck?

The sportmanship clap at the end of the race, as if that wasnt put on from RB. Vettel is a cry baby and showing it a lot lately. I feel sorry for Webber, bet he gets rate fedup of being around him.

3 identicle cars... Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel, i would put all my money on vettel being last.

How exactly does turbulent air affect a race car? I've heard that it can slowly degrade carbon fiber components, but haven't seen any evidence to how a driver behind a car is affected by it.

Me 2. Both ham and alonso are the best drivers in F1 IMO. there is not much between the two and they both seem to have become mates now.

Vettel didnt lose yesterday because of Karthikeyan. He lost because Hamilton was faster than him.

Hamilton was gaining on Vettel every lap and he was VERY close to making a move in the laps prior to the one that he finally did. I have no doubt that Lewis would have won the race even without Karthhikeyan holding Vettel up through turns 3-7 on that lap.

If Vettel deserved to win, he would have got back past Lewis or at LEAST got into the DRS zone behind him. Instead, Lewis managed the gap and kept it perfectly consistent at about 1.3-1.5 seconds for the last 10 laps.
