United States Grand Prix 2015, Austin - Race 16/19

Congrats to Lewis and Merc for two solid years!

Some race thoughts.

-First corner move was borderline dickish and I hope in the future the stewards keep a better tab on things occurring early on, while I don't think any penalty should have been applied I think the drivers could do with knowing that they are being looked at for stuff like that. Ultimately Rosberg didn't have position, speed or a plan B for that corner.

-Kimi is a has-been and Ferrari will never win a WCC with him wasting the second seat.

-Lewis lost more through VSC's and SC's (especially with Mercs awful strat calls this year) then he gained, only the 'half price' final pit stop benefited him and made up for the advantage Ros and Vet already had. It's odd that those who were crying how 'lucky' he was at the time seemed to forget that.

-Asides from the early inter stages when the DBR's had a clear advantage Lewis's pace was actually quite good for most of the race, he wasn't struggling as much as was made out and was mostly suffering from poor calls and SC timing.

-Rosberg can whine about whatever he wants, he ultimately threw away his championship hopes while leading several laps from the end when he almost spun the car.

-Mclaren were the most lucky of all, between the safety cars and a slew of cars in front of them retiring they almost looked midfield this race, while they have made considerable progress this year they cant rely on circumstance flattering them with another 6th.

-The Autosport forums are a hive of retards.

Rosberg threw away the championship at the first race of the season. He is such a bad loser. Looking forward to Hamilton vs Vettel next season. Hamilton has driven to near perfection this year.

Just watched the clip of the hat toss by Nico again. To be fair to him, it was a decent shot.

The glare from Paddy Lowe said it all though. Priceless.

Lewis was fine at the 1st corner. Nico complaining that Lewis was aggressive is childish.

Verstappen is awesome! He should be in Ferrari with Vettel!! What a duo they would make. He is an absolute star in the making.

As much as I'm glad Hammy won it, I can't help but feel Rosberg is even more stupid than he seems. He could easily have feigned issues on the closing lap to allow Vettel to come 2nd, therefore technically keeping the WC alive.

He was probably warned not to do that!

As funny as it would have been, why risk his career over something silly like that? This is probably the only ever time he's going to be in the #1 team.

Alonso, sure I can remember some lad in his first ever year of F1 giving him a run for his money, almost winning the WDC.

Also who was that lad who was driving that unrealible dog of a McLaren and almost stole the WDC from vettel?

Who was it again?

If we have seen anything in recent years it's the difference made when a team is behind you or not. Especially at Mclaren with Ron. Had Lewis had to step into Alonso's den at Ferrari or even worse Renault with Flav, he would have been turned over to a greater extent than drawing on points.

Lewis deserves his run with the best car and a **** team mate after all he put up with mechanically at Mclaren. I think he's the best there currently is wheel to wheel no where near Alonso if they were sat in equal machinery. Lewis wouldn't have run Vettel anywhere near as close in the ferrari. He makes too many mistakes when pushed. Alonso has been ruthlessly consistent even when everything has been at stake. Both Vettel and Lewis have been fairly fortunate the best driver since Senna can pick a car to save his life :D

Anyway the most boring championship since 93 overall for me :(

For all the hating on Rosberg, he has improved markedly this season. Next season might be very different.

Has he? He's taken a step back in qualifying (winning the pole trophy last year, but getting annihilated this time) and is still making unforced errors in the races.

With Rosberg, his second/third place in the championship has been overshadowed by his childish sulking and whining about how unfair it all is, like some teenage boy. If you look at his results, he's one of the top point-scorers of the last couple of years. but everyone thinks of him as a joke because of the way he deports himself.

Rosberg has been with Mecedes a long time, and even when Schumacher was there, I'm sure he felt at home in "his" team. When Schumacher retired and Hamilton came in as the new guy, I'm sure Rosberg felt that he was in charge, the lead driver in a team he already knew well and where Hamilton was the interloper. His big chance to step up and lead the team to championships. Now Rosberg has been pushed out into number two driver, and Hamilton has made the team his own.

In the end, it's results that count, and Rosberg hasn't been able to beat Hamilton consistently. I'm sure this has put psychological pressure on Rosberg, because not only has he "lost" his team, he's consistently beaten by Hamilton, and derided because of his inability to deal with that except by acting like a child.

Not seeing much proof of him improving "markedly".

He might be a little more racy now when overtaking, but the gap between him and his teammate is definitely wider. Pole position which he was better at last year has also spun on it's head in LHs favour.

There have been crucial moments this season when the pressure has gotten to him, and I don't think the ban on radio comms has done him any favours whatsoever.

Does everyone think they will just make Rosberg number two driver now?

They will never make it official, but it's obvious from some of the comments/reactions from the Merc. management over the past 2 seasons that Lewis is the golden boy of the team and Nico is just there to keep him honest.

I'm fairly sure Lauda, Wolff, Lowe etc. know he doesn't have what it takes to win a WDC, but excels at helping them win the WCC which is their priority.

If they have actual competition next year, to the point where they need to invest in a single driver, then I can see them doing it. With the car being so far ahead, if that continues then no, I don't think they will.

Time will tell. Given how far Merc are ahead, they've probably been developing next years car since half way through the season so who knows.

I haven't seen a clip with Paddy's glare. Can't find it.
