Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

I think he was talking about the crossfire system of Mean Mr Mustard but I think he's only getting one card which doesn't really make sense lol.

What makes you think that?
I don't currently own either of these cards, but I have been considering both. either 6950CF or a single 6970 (which I might upgrade later on).

But yes I was referring to the fact that it was disappointing that Mean Mr Mustard was getting such high temps in Crossfire that he was thinking of reverting back to 6950. Partly because I think I'd be the same.

Thanks for posting this as 6950 (flashed to 6970) one of the options I was considering trying for.
Disappointing though.
I have the HAF 932 so I'm hoping my side fan will help a bit, but that still seems very hot. Can't help but think AMD could've made a better reference design cooler. From what I've read it's not even as good as the Nvidia one.

What makes you think that?

I was going by the above quote from you. You said 6950 to 6970 is one of the options you were considering. You didn't say 6950s :p. :)

i flashed mine with a asus oc 6970 bios

Your life is so full of drama, considered just buying a mac and being done with it?

Tell me about it! No, seriously go on, tell me about it.
Yes I've considered buying a Mac (well MacBook, but that would mostly just be to sync my iPhone to. Seemed like a waste of money really, so I installed iTunes in Windows. I believe the phrase is "DO NOT WANT" :))
No I would be done with it. Where's the fun in that?
I'm just not good at making decisions, and then not good at being happy with the decision I made once I've made it.

This card is a serious winrar with the ability to unlock.

GTX570 performance for £214 beats anything out there in terms of value. I don't see the point in buying any other cards atm.

Each 6pin connector must be capable of delivering atleast 75W and 8pin connectors must deliver atleast 150W. In reality, most 6pins will deliver much more than 75W if needed. Unless you have a pants PSU, 2x6pins will deliver just as much as 1x6pin + 1x8pin so 6950 unlocked to 6970 will not be restricted by less power.

Assuming it doesn't cause any damage.
This is the thing, it might take time before we really know, but the longer we wait the greater the chance AMD stop it being possible.
Then I'm left with a 6950 (or 2) that I don't want.

Ya big girl!

Just get a 6970 and be done with it then. I no longer want this thread derailed with insecurities. And should I? Or shouldn't I ? Posts

Thanks

This is why we're able to overclock beyond PCI-E+power connectors ratings (and the TDP of the graphics cards) :p
