Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

It does it sometimes and not others.

I got green lined flickering across the screen and green snow, which made me think to drop the memory clock 25mhz. I did and it is fine. I then put it back to stock 6970 (still with +20% of course) and it ran fine. Strange...

Perhaps we need a 6970 bios that we can put +20% on yet with a 1350mhz clock for the ram?

I have to visit relatives now but will post later on :).

Ninja Edit: Easyrider, are your artifacts the same as mine?

What did you use to drop the ram 25mhz as it wont let me do it CCC
 
Dropped my Ram to 1350 (25mhz) and put slider to +20

No artifacts although it made no difference to perfromance.

Got 1377 @ 880/1350 @ 20+%

Got 1380@ 880/1375 @ 0%

Right. I've had a bit of a mess around inside my case, tidied up the wiring a bit, cleaned nearly a year's worth of dust off the air filter on my 2 front intake fans, and stuck an extra intake fan on the side panel of the case.

Max temp running Heaven is now 82C on both GPUs. Fan noise is better than before but still a bit distracting, I'll have to have a play with some profiles to strike a decent balance between noise & heat.

do you have any sort of gap between both cards ?

frankly i dont see a great deal of similar complaints about CPU core unlocking. What should Graphics core unlocking be any different? I would be quite surprised if every single 6950 manufactured will a) successfully unlock and b) have the same lifespan as a non flashed 6950. There will be some, however many or few, with genuine defects. It will be luck of the draw.
