Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

£200 VTX edition unlocked with ASUS bios, seems to be working fine, had a little play with 3dmark and all seems ok, will see how high it will clock once i move case as the MATX isnt good for temps.

Will do. Its down to come Friday if Overclockers ship it out quick enough and DPD have no problems delivering etc :)

Well Easy, I called up OCUK today and they have advised me to not accept the 5850 and DDR3 delivery that I've ordered which should arrive tomorrow or latest Thursday. They said it will be easier than doing a DSR. So on Friday I'll be ordering the i3 540 instead of the i5 760, Asus P7P55D-E Intel P55, 4gb of DDR3 (which is now cheaper than last weeks special offer:confused:) and the HIS 6950.

Wooot. I blame you Easy as if you hadn't started this thread I'd have been gaming away on the 5850 but from rig in sig to the new one with the 6950. I'll be flying. Kinda gutted I can't afford the i5 quad right now but this rig is only to last me until March/April so I'll get a quad then.

My eyes wanted to say thank you. So thank you. :D

Edit: In fact Easy. Could you please run Heaven 2.1 again and use 4xAA?. I'm not going to change my mind. Would just like to see a fair comparison as you are not running any AA.

Did you enable overdrive, set power control to +20% and manually set the clock to 880MHz?

Congratulations Vinny :). By any chance, did you do a benchmark before flashing it?, plus have you upped to 20% in powerplay to see if there is any untapped performance?. Some people have seen the boost whilst some have not. I'm curious about this.

I'll be ordering on Thursday or Friday and it will be the HIS version so I'm glad another one has been successful.

Thanks - Ive not got as far as that yet !

I didnt benchmark before hand - My first real chance of playing with it since ive had it....

Those things are gonna get HOT to say the least, doesn;t look like thers any gap at all for airflow since these cards only intake from the side of the fan and not the front end of the heatsink. :eek:

So.............. Package came, flashed BIOS, benchmark and then you might play some games? :D. Absolute class lol. Just like Christmas dinner, get stuck right in there :cool:.

Well I hope you can sit and play some games now and enjoy your new card but if you feel the urge to do loads of mad benchmarking, then I've got a few days before I'll receive my new parts so I'll be obsessively watching.

max temp 68 !!!
both 580's were 71+

i am amazed !! amazed at how good these things are
i went against everything i said, by driving down to ocuk, umming and r'ing at the desk, 580 again or these. im glad i got these

Hi JD,

Ive had it since the day after release - Always with intention of clocking it ! Everyday since Ive had it, Ive been meaning to sit down and look at it properly, but have failed everytime (Wife and Kids :-))...

I heard of the new BIOS - So decided, after a bit of thought to install and here I am.....:-)

Will get round to clocking shortly, and will post results - I must say, what a bargain so far !!!
