Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

how would you go about flashing dual cards
would you have to take one out to flash the 1st ?

Wasn't sure whether it'd be necessary but I disabled crossfire anyway before starting. Atiwinflash allows you to select which card you want to flash, but if you get 'Could not erase ROM' error like I did then you need to change the 0 to a 1 when using the 'atiwinflash -unlockrom 0', etc commands, to flash the second card.

Might just have a play before i tinker
took a drive down to ocuk this morning

Now that looks awesome!
I've just ordered my HIS 6950, should arrive on the 30th. However I'll have to wait for the last bits of my new system to arrive before I flash the card, as my current system will bottleneck it anyway, so there'll be no point. I wonder what the improvements over my 4870 will be :P

I went from a 4870 xfire to a "true" 6970 and I noticed a difference. So you be flying.

my clock max in afterburner and ccc is 840 & 1325 ???

no more numbers to slide to after them

normal ??

you have to edit the afterburner cfg file and change the file called "unofficial overclocking" which is in the MSIafterburner folder from 0 to 1, that unlocks the restriction.
If you flash the bios of your 6950 to 6970, CCC should show higher availble overclock, the limit of this overclock is dependant on the 6970 bios used (sapphire, asus, etc).

yeah got it mate, the way pieman wrote it i was looking for a file called unoficial overclocking

all sorted now thanks guys :D

temps are nowhere near as bad as i was expecting

Forgot about changing the config file. Not been awake long:p

Remember to do what ask

If you forgot what performance increase you are having for free people. And get complacent.... Just flick the bios switch on the card to go back to a stock 6950. :D
