Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

This is what I get on my olde Core 2 Duo system:

2 x ASUS HD6950s unlocked to 6970 and running at 950/1450. According to GPU-Z both cards are running at 8x PCI-E 1.0 (so presumably 4x PCI-E 2.0 equivalent?).

I get 74.3 FPS and 1871 score @ 900Mhz core / 1400MHz memory at the same settings. So that seems a little low... this is with a 980X though so it could be because you have a Core 2 Duo but Heaven dont seem that CPU heavy so i'd expect atleast 70 FPS.. Do you know why the cards are running at 8x PCI-E 1.0? i think it's because of that.

That's all my motherboard supports.

It's got 4 PCI-E slots which run at either 16x/0x/4x/0x (1 card populated) or 8x/8x/4x/8x (2 or more cards populated), all at PCI-E 1.0. Currently the cards are in slots 1 and 4.

It feels marginally faster than my 5970 was, but not staggeringly quicker. I guess it'll come into its own when I upgrade to SB, which in retrospect I probably should've done before buying the 2nd card.

Yup, I said that in my previous post. :p

I'm fairly confident the 2nd card is crippled (or both are now since they're both running at PCI-E 1.0 8x) simply because a single card wasn't perceptibly much slower in Heaven than 2 of them.

I'm considering sending one back though I don't suppose I'd be able to under DSR now. They're both awesome clockers, doing 950/1450 (as far as the sliders go in CCC) without breaking a sweat.

@ jaaye - have you tried increasing the voltage? Or underclocking RAM to get 880MHz core?

I cant increase the voltage on MSI afterburner (i think its somethign to do with MSI AB not showing the driver correctly. The slider is just greyed out and it doesnt show a voltage at all). I did try searching the net but after 10mins i gave up for the afternoon and went back to WOW. Asus Smartdoctor doesnt work at all (whether i have the ASUS bios flashed or not).
Power Control settings in CCC are set to +20

I think its just luck tbh. Good luck that it overclocks/unlocks at all, and bad luck it doesnt overclock to the 900+ that others are getting.

need opinions on this score, one card clocked @940/1440 other@ 885/1390 look ok?

hey jedi, i only recently read your email, lol your title was "27 inches of pleasure" and i just dumped it in the junk box thinking it was some messed up junk email. will reply soon, 3 monitors came yesterday!!!!

yes thats correct, i need to pump more volts into the other to get it past 900 but asus bios doesnt work for me anymore lol. whats your memory running at?

ok so.

got the cards today( HIS 6950). fitted with difficulty they are massive.

put the card in. pushed flash WIN using the BAT file, put the slider on 20% overclocked to 880 / 1375 and success no artifacts and i got

heaven 2579

my 5850 crossfire got 1309 huge improvement

what motherboard have you got and what is your processor speed, also would really appreciate it if you told me what power supply you have?

thanks
