Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

Does anyone know why my (MSi) 6950 wont adjust further then 950Mhz on the Core clock through CCC or Afterburner please?

Do I need to change the BIOS to 6970?

You probably need to enable unofficial overclocking. Im sure theres either an option in msi afterburner options or you need to edit the config file for afterburner.

Thanks, I cant seem to find a setting, the only ones I see are voltage related.

I assume i'm on a 6970? BIOS since my default core clock speed is 880Mhz now?

Ok, ive had to modify the config file for Afterburner, got it now, thanks.

Just got myself a sapphire 6950 and i'm intending to flash but just want to know before i do if anyone after flashing has had any problems with there cards ( after a period of time)
thanks

just flashed mine sitting @ 880/1375 :D had to run in cmd as winflash did'nt work in windows.
my temps seem a tad on the hot side tbh idle they are ok @ 44 but under load they hit around the 90 mark does anyone elses sit this high?

Mine idles at around 60 and reaches 90 under load.
This is an ASUS 6950 with the standard ASUS 6970 BIOS tweak.
Seems high to me in a big well ventilated case.
I'm waiting for my extended bridge before running the second one as it just doesn't get enough airflow with them in adjoining slots.
Anybody else getting similar??

Hey guys,

I just received my 2nd MSI HD6950 today, I have flashed it to 6970 shaders and voltages, not clocks, I made my own bios. I have been using afterburner to up the clocks when I had a single card. Now when I try to use afterburner to change clocks it crashes to BSOD. I have disabled ULPS as I read in forum this may stop it but has not worked.

What would be the best way to take this forward, just flash both cards to 6970 or can I fix the afterburner BSOD ?

Also I have ran some benchmarks, there is a huge difference on Heaven about 100 percent which is great. However i've been testing on BFBC2 which is the main reason I went for crossfire. I am running at a res of 6114 * 1152 ( eyefinity ) I have in increase of about 10 fps when running at this res on crossfire. When I run at native res on one screen I get a huge increase of about 40 fps. I take it this is normal and it's just because the resolution is so high ?

Hey guys, when do you reckon OCUK will stop stocking Rev 1 unlockable 6950s?

I want to know because i should be purchasing it next month and dont want to get Rev 2 cards..

You can always give ocuk a call and verify that what you are buying is indeed rev 1. I would expect them to have them next month as well, and maybe for quite a while indeed, as they are quite popular.

I've unlocked the shaders only and clocked the card to 880/1375 and while running furmark the Gpu Core fluctuates constantly from anywhere between 660 to 880 :/ do you know what the problem is?

EDIT: i ran heaven benchmark and the core stayed at 880 so the problem is with furmark i guess

Hey, I didn't go through all the posts, however would it be possible to crossfire 2 cards.

MSI HD6950 flashed in to HD6970
with a full fledged MSI HD6970

Change your Power Control to +10% or higher. The card's wattage is capping out.

I bought an Asus 6950 and I don't think it has the dual bios on it. Is this ok to flash? I've just been to the shop and the card I bought is no longer available. What's happened to it? I don't want to flash it in case I brick it and I'm also a bit worried about where it's gone.

Ok, found the dual bios switch, looking in the wrong place!

Just tried to flash it following the instructions and I get the following error message:

subsystem ID's mismatch

What am I doing wrong now?
