Unlock your ATI 6950 to a 6970 Thread

Unlocked the shaders and mine and now got it clocked to 1000/[email protected] :)

From 1375 to 1475MHz on the memory the performance dropped but then picked up again at 1500MHz to 1550MHz.

1575MHz was a no go and then the drivers kept crashing even at lower clock....bricked it and thought i had damaged card. All ok now after a couple of restarts :)

Passes heaven benchmark and just testing with occt now.

No games tonight since flash but was running last night on stock volts at 940/1400 with no issues.

edit: Seems ok with occt too at 1000/[email protected] :)

Now for some games :)

weird issue here, flashed too 6970 shader unlocks, trying to bump the clocks upto that off the 6970. Afterburner and CCC only shows clock options of 840mhz and 1325mhz.
If i use something like trixx i got it working. I reinstalled drivers after i flashed and did numerous benchies for here (will post later) Now for the life of me i cannot get trixx to work as it keeps BSOD me atipkmag error or what ever. Any ideas on this?

sorted one issue "I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it
" ;)

nope anything above 840mhz and bsod.... if i unable xfire i can bump one up... but both together not having it.

If I done a full 6970 flash will it auto put my clocks to 880mhz/1375mhz? Each card on their own benchmark fine at these speeds as I have tested them. Just won't go together, had it setup on 880/1375+840/1325 after bodging here and there. What I had in mind was a full 6970 flash then drop off the voltage if possible. Thoughts?

Yes, a full flash will essentially turn your card into a 6970, but I'm not too sure about changing the memory timings back. You should have a post on tech powerups forum, their 6950->6970 thread is much bigger.

If it was me I'd just stick with the modded 6950 bios.

Hi all

Got myself an asus 6950 2gb coming tomorrow :) providing it has a bios switch I should be ok? ive been reading bits of this thread but its got so long its hard to follow the whole thing, am I right in thinking I shouldnt just flash a 6970 bios onto it but a modded 6950 bios that unlocks the cores? Ive had a look on techpowerup forums but cant seem to find anything.....

btw has anyone done an asus card here?

Just follow the instructions quoted in post 1047 (7th from top of this page)
That just modifies your own bios so that the extra shaders are unlocked.

Had to do the command part as winflash wouldnt do it on w7 64bit.

Sorry contradicted myself there :(

Yes just follow that method at top of thread.

There is another where you just get winflash to do the flashing by using the gui but that bit doesnt happen with w7 64 so you do the comaand line bit and that does :)

Sorry didnt mean to confuse matters :(
