**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Had 4 new Goodyear F1 AS3 fitted to my Octavia VRS yesterday and impressed with them so far. Was tempted by the Michelin PS4 but a good price on the AS3 plus a £60 Amazon Gift card meant they were considerably cheaper.

The F1 AS3 are noticeably quieter than the Continental Sport Contact 5 they have replaced and much more compliant too over rough/bumpy surfaces. Did 30k on the Continentals with the rears still on 4mm, so hoping the Goodyears last just as long or longer.

The rears on my A6 Avant have 7mm on the outside and 6mm on the inside (both left and right are wearing at the same rate). Is it worth getting the tracking done, or is this wear normal/acceptable?

My car (Mondeo) currently has 19" wheels with 235/40 R19 tyres on and I know two of them are on 3-4mm so will need replacing soon.

However, I mostly do motorway driving and I find the ride is a little, let's say, unforgiving with just about any imperfection on the roads, so I was considering switching to smaller wheels. If I bothered I'd get proper Ford alloys but I'm unsure of whether to look at 17" or 18" wheels. It seems my car had the following options:

215/55 R16
235/45 R17
235/45 R18

I don't mind buying a full set of decent tyres when the time comes - a set of 4 Continentals in 235/40 R19 is ~£750 and that's fine if that's what I need to spend. However, a set of 4 Continentals in 235/45 R17 is ~£400. The wheels alone would certainly cost less than £350 so there's a cost saving there - however I'm not too fussed about the money when it comes to tyres, but I'm more curious about what would give the most comfort given that I do a lot of what is mostly motorway driving.

Also my car has TMPS sensors in the wheels so I'd need to throw another £60 or so at it to get a new set of those. I've read some things that say they need to be paired up with the car in some way though, is this actually the case? If I did bother swapping my wheels I'd rather just leave the 19s as-is for if/when I sell the car in the future.

Yes they need pairing. Put it in the correct mode and you go round the car letting the tyres down so it spots them. Horn beeps and you move on to the next wheel.

Bit of an update on the Dunlops I put on mine - down to just under 5mm on the NS front. I do around 9/10k pa just now so will be lucky to have seen me a year by the time it needs changed. I would normally see around 15k from a set of fronts (if I didn't rotate them), albeit have only really had the Dunlops on this car

Good grip but pretty average life unfortunately, likely revert back to ps4 or as3 when I'm next changing

Anyone got any experience/opinions of Yokohama A34's in 175/55/15, need 4 new tyres for my Mitsubishi Mirage as although they're legal (Just passed MOT), they've less than 3mm of tread and they've started to crack and the garage can fit the above tomorrow morning, they've said these are higher end.

Thanks in advance.

my Mitsubishi Mirage

You poor thing

Yokohama's should be fine, but check blackcircles or the like to make sure you aren't being ripped off / could get a better tyre for the same money

Edit: looks like the A34 might be an old tyre, don't seem to be sold by many places now

Ha, other than the front suspension/roll being hilariously bad, it's not that bad at all, I got it for a very good deal and the only thing I was looking for was something cheap to run and reliable, and considering for the past year (12,000 miles) nothing has gone wrong and it's just passed its MOT it's been very reliable, £0 tax and 50MPG town driving also meant it's been cheap to run.

I've had a look, B rated performance for the wet seems pretty good (can't believe there's tyres being sold with an E rating for wet) but the prices seems weird, I've seen numerous prices from £20 - £76, the garage want to charge me £272 everything included which is discounted apparently because I've had my MOT & service at the same place, on blackcircles I can get it for £247.96 fitted but I'd need to wait a week and take it somewhere I haven't used before so will probably just get it done tomorrow.

I need four new tyres. Initially was after Ventus Prime 3, then fancied the Turanza T100 Evo

But now settling on Dunlop Sport BluResponse. It is from HiQ for £65 each fitted (195/60 15). Is this a good price? It's the cheapest fitted price for a good tyre I have found.

I have checked buying tyres myself and fitting locally but it doesn't work out all that good value. £15 a tyre is the regular price round here, cheapest being £12.50. But the tyres I am looking at retail around £48-52. So it kind of ends up being the same as HiQ, but with hiQ i dont have to worry about delivery, transporting, arranging fitting etc.

Took a week for them to arrive, finally got PS4 in 205/40/17 fitted and car already feels different to drive than it did on the P Zero I had on originally.

Hi has anyone used tyre leader? Prices seem better than cam skill and have tyres in stock that they cannot source re050 bridge stones. Prices cheap with fitting, what you think....

Think they not uk based, serious shout they are cheaper than cam skill as don't think they charge delivery.

Just would like others opinion before I make the jump.

I think they're German. You'll be fine ordering with them but may take a few more days than others. Do they have a 'fitted' option? As most tyre places are funny when fitting customer supplied tyres and can often charge more than if you were to get the tyres through them.

What I have found with the Gloucester tyre places, such as Chris Mullens and F1 Auto Centre, they're quite often cheaper than online places. It may be worth a shop around.

Any recommend Avon zv7 tyres?

This is for my w204 estate. Currently running on conti’s but I don’t think they’re worth the price tag

Hi guys

Brother is looking to replace his tyres on his A5 3.0TDI. Size is 255/35 R19 - are PS4S the best bet for general use or not worth the extra over PS4? They look around £20 extra per corner

Got them on my Passat, came on it so I have no bias here, I would say they are pretty good, would definitely replace with the same. Nice responsive feel to them, good grip, bit of a hard ride but that might just be the suspension.
