**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Oh. Thats dead then I assume?

Its on the thick rim protection part which is pretty thick, but I don't know how much rubber there is beyond this gash?

Cheers. I stuck it back down with a tiny dob of rubber cement so it doesn't flap around/come off.

Anyway as this is the tyre thread it's a very exciting weekend coming up, time to put the Continental WinterContact TS860 onto the Mini for no real reason other than why not.

any particular reason why you chose them over the cross climates ... cc's seem to have kw deals at the moment.

Yes, as I only run them between November and March I use a decent winter tyre and then a decent summer tyre the rest of the time.

It runs Michelin Primacy 3 the rest of the time.

Is the Primacy 3 a good tyre? I would expect you to have Pilot Sports or AS5's or something. I had an older variant of the Primacy on one of my cars, the HP, and I thought they were pretty average. Not great in the rain. Awful in the rain in fact. Would spin up with light throttle in the wet with a menacing 89HP available. :p

It came on the car from the factory and I've not needed to replace them yet :D

I'll replace them with Pilot Sport or AS5 when the time comes.

Just been for the Avon ZV7 215/55/R16 97W that I ordered online from ATS to be fitted to the rear of the Focus. Garage claimed I ordered the wrong size even though every tyre checker out there recommends 215/55, so they fitted 205/55/R16 91V instead which happens to be the same as what was already on the car.

Could I have still had the 215/55's fitted as they are after all "recommended" or have I been stitched up?

It's the tyre label bit I don't like as the 215/55's has C rating for fuel economy where as the 205/55 is only an E.

They did refund me the difference for the cheaper tyres, sort of, as I had wheel alignment done too so I still had to pay a little bit extra.

You can't rely on the tyre checkers sadly, there are so many different wheel size options/tyre size options between years etc. Ideally you should look at the tyres on the car, and order the same (assuming they were the same from the factory). For example https://www.wheel-size.com/size/ford/focus/ so many different options!

And don't worry about the EU rating, they're not worth thinking about.

But the 205s do sound the correct/common size for the 16" from the factory. I believe the US market commonly use the 215/55/16 whereas the EU market use the 205/55/16, might be that?

But the 215s wouldn't have caused any major issues, although might not be best having different sizes front to back.

Thanks, not going to worry about it now and I'll be getting fronts done soon too in the same size as the rears. Only problem I got to tend with is they said one of the locking nuts was broken and the "cap" can't go back on so now I've got **** looking wheels, also one of the other caps on the normal bolts is all chewed up.

Nothing is plain sailing.

I believe the caps on Fords are known to be a bit flaky, http://www.fordproblems.com/swollen-lug-nuts/

Looks like I've got bigger fish to fry now that I've only just noticed this evening that they have damaged the wheel getting one of the bolts out plus similar damage on the other wheel. I can not believe it!
