Yeah I suppose at least I am running AWD and on a 40/60 split to the rear wheels and the x5 45e isnt in the performance camp (although it feels like it with a 4.7s time to 60 )

I just read the description of the P4S - 'occasional track use'. That is very unlikely in my E43 lol. Is there an alternative I should be considering?

You generally don't get a choice with the Michelin - you can normally have either PS4 or PS4S. You'll probably find the decision made for you by what is available in both front and rear tyre sizes.

I think I remember the E43 having the same tyre size front and rear to my car (245/40/19 and 275/35/19?) in which case PS4S is only available in the rear size, so I ended up having to go for PS4 instead.

They don't make this easy do they?

2x 245/40 R19 Y(98) I can see PS4's for £204.94 (C Fuel, A Wet, 71DB) or PS4 S1 for £216.84 (A Fuel, B Wet, 72DB - with a BMW logo next to it).

Infact typing this up is too hard... this is what I see - two kinds of PS4, one with a BMW logo, and then some PS4 S1s:

And the 275s I can only see PS4S...

Why not the Pilot Sport 5 all round?

Yes they are but they are not 'S'. What car is this for? If it's an M3 or M Lite type of car then go for the S, if it's a 520d etc then just get the PS5.

He cannot go for the S because it isn't available in his front tyre size unfortunately.

So it's either 4 or 5 (Or another brand of tyre).

Looks like Kwik Fit at least have these in both front and rear size. I wonder if the 275/35/19 Pilot Sport 4 is end of production - the few I can find are really expensive, as in almost £300 each!

@dLockers picture above has the PS5 in both sizes
£171.99 for the 245/40R19
£250.80 for the 275/35R19 with another 15% Off via code PSSAVE

E43 so 'M Lite"plus"'

£739.52 mail order; £775.74 fully fitted PS5's.

I am definitely not tracking it - is the 'S' a big upgrade? Mute point I guess as they aren't available!

From what I've read, the S is more suited to spirited driving, the occasional track day etc. It will have better feel and feedback than the non S. The new PS5 is meant to be a great tyre, I don't think you'd go far wrong with them.

No idea - are they good? Saves a chunk of change!

Not many reviews out there, but would be surprised if they weren't at least as good as the PS4 they seem to be replacing.

The only thing better is really the P4S (or P5S when it's likely released), but it's not like these are going to be crap tyres - they're still better than probably 98% of tyres you can buy.

Thanks chaps - I am not in an urgent rush, potentially I will wait until I see some PS5 reviews on the Mercedes 4MATIC as it has the mental crabbing issue.

If it's a 4MATIC, I'd be tempted to go with a Merc approved tyre.

If you're not, I'd go for the PS5, which is a high performance tyre, rather than the PS4S which is an ultra high performance tyre. It'll last a little bit longer, and for your use, I doubt you'll notice much, if any difference, in driving dynamics.

I hadn't considered there would be a Merc approved tyre but I guess that is worth exploring too. I imagine I have Merc approved tyres on currently which are absolutely abysmal for crabbing though - so may not be worth a huge amount
