Brand new ContiSportContact 5...
Bin or keep it?

looks like a bin !

It doesn't even look deep and it's not near the join at the tread. I'd keep that.

If it concerns you, maybe get a second opinion from a garage or something.

I've ordered a new one anyway but I've already done over 1000mi including 120+ on the autobahn and I'm still here...

I'll pop into my local tyre guy and ask him before I book a time and see what he says.

good list, thanks Gibbo

where the option that says

Its simple buy what will fit your car in this order for a road car thats driven in a sporty manner wih NO trackdays ?

Need some new rears on my SLK350 ( 245/40 R17 91Y ). Currently got Goodyear AS2's on the front and was hoping to put those on the back too but my local tyre place, Blackboots in Chesham can't get hold of them for another month or so!

Some of the chains, National Tyre etc have them but I'm a bit worried about the reviews those places get!

Any recommendations for somewhere in south bucks or a fit at home service?

Hi all,

I'm a real car newbie and I have a question about two new tyres that I had fitted to my car at a local garage.

I got two Continental EfficientGrip Compact tyres fitted to the front.

When I got home, I went to have a look at the tyres and noticed that the tread direction is facing the same direction on both. I can't see any obvious markings on the tyre wall that indicates outside/inside/direction. Is it fitted correctly?

Pictures of fitted tyres taken from in front facing towards the car.

Thanks

If they are assymetric, they will have an "outside" label on them. If they're directional, they'll have arrows pointing forwards in them.

Turn the wheel full lock and check the inside of the tyre for the "outside" mark

Thanks, I'll try that. I had a look on both tyres already and can't see those markings.

Wondering if some of you could help me choose a couple of tyres to go on my E46. MV2 alloys so rear size is 255/35/18 Y. When I bought the car I originally planned on getting something from Vredestein, but then Michelin PS3s seemed to come back in stock so I had my mind set on those because my step-dad has/had PS3s on his E46. All I've read since is that I'd be better off with the Sport Contact 5 or Eagle F1A2.

However I do 13-14000 miles a year and I would kind of like a tyre to last a year unless I'm being silly expecting that from a decent grippy tyre on an E46? Both the Sport Contact 5 and Eagle F1A2 I've read mixed opinions on their wear rates. Saying that, the car will be used on mostly single carriageway A-roads with easy-medium corners and I won't be doing any track days and I don't wheel spin everywhere or corner hard all of the time so maybe either of them will last a bit longer.

I'm happy to spend money to get good tyres, £100-150 (not fitted) is the range I'm looking at and this seems to enable me to choose from any of the tyres worth looking at.

There is currently a worn Avon ZZ5 and a Sunny SN3890283718something on the rear thanks to the garage I bought the car from so I'd imagine most tyres would be an upgrade :p

If anyone has any of the tyres mentioned above on an E46 or similar and could share their thoughts it would be appreciated.

I've got Goodyear Eagle F1A2's on mine and they are fantastic. On my old 335, the rears lasted for 12-15000 miles and the fronts would have been good for 30k. The old Eagle F1 used to have a bad problem with wear rates but the new ones are excellent in that way.

Anyone recommend any good tyres for a 1.8ts alfa 156? (01 reg).

I think they're 205/50/16. Handles absolutely brilliantly, but they're getting down now.

I'd need all 4 done I reckon.

Definitely looking at more budget tyres as the price difference seems to be phenomenal.

What pressures did you run the AS2s on the 335i, just normal? I'm considering moving to them when the current set of runflats wear out.

710 for a full set of 19" F1A2. I hate my current tyres so much I'm actually tempted.

What sort of used value would my 7mm 275/35/19 and 7mm 235/40/19 Goodyear Excellence RFT?

At a guess, £70/tyre.
