**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I’ve done something I said I’d never do

I’ve actively decided to put Pirelli tyres on my Boxster!!!!

But the reason is valid - fronts are already Pirelli’s and the rears are down to 2.5mm, one of the tyres has a nail in it.

Looking forward to crashing

I've just bought Pirelli for the first time since my S2000 nearly 17 years ago.

Ordered some of the Scorpion All Season SF3 for our Countryman All4. We've got Cross Climate 3 Sport on the JCW 306 Clubman and I've been happy with those. Pirelli's seem to test well against them, just slightly worse on wear.... Got all 4 for several hundred cheaper than the CC3S so lets see how it goes

Got a puncture this morning, he gets the tyre off and says it can't be repaired as the nail was so close to a previous patch. He did show me and it was within a few inches. All he had was a part worn generic brand to get me on my way :( I'm planning on putting Michelin cross climates on once these tyres are done but they've all got a decent amount of tread. So going to have to ride this for a while or bite the bullet.

Well, colour me surprised.

The N1 P Zeros have been fantastic so far, much better than the Asy 2 even.

Have dealt with the cold pretty well.

How have I ended up with Pirelli’s on both of my cars :(

Interesting difference between the Bridgestone Turanza 6 AS and t005 I'm finding in colder weather - the t005 feel wise hold up pretty well until you get down to 0 though the performance does drop off especially if dealing with ice or snow, while the 6 AS you notice the ride becoming harder feeling around 2-3C though the performance still holds up fine.

Well, I’m conflicted about the P Zeros.

I lost control of the car on a roundabout this evening, unexpectedly. Not driving quickly, but evidently more quickly than the tyres could deal with.

I’m conflicted because I’ve had the same thing happen with the PS4S - my old Boxster snapped on me on a roundabout, except it was a little twitch.

The P Zeros just… gave way. No warning, just suddenly pointing at the roundabout.

Because I’m pure skill (read: luck) I managed to catch it.

So not sure if the P Zeros are good because they provided enough feel at and beyond the limit in a controllable way, or if they suck because they let me lose control going round a boring roundabout on my way back from a late night showing of Avatar.

Haven’t ever lost control of a car like that though. Turning, then sudden loss of feel through the steering wheel.

Predictability is just as important as all out grip, IMO, if they snap away from you with no warning rather than you be able to feel them going, it's not good! Especially on Porsches as they are known for being a bit twitchy anyway!

Yeah totally get that. I would say that the behaviour of them was predictable once they went, but absolutely no hint they were going.

Just grip, then no grip. No traction lights or anything.

The other tyres I’ve owned I could always feel the grip levels through the accelerator and steering wheel, but nothing on this.

I feel it was more luck than anything that I recovered it.

Cold tyres? UHP tyres aren't the best when the temperature drops :s (reason I run either all-seasons or touring tyres on the road).

Yeah they’ll have been cold, but P Zeros are the only UHP tyre I’ve used that struggle in the cold.

Took the PS4S to Switzerland last year through many temp ranges and they were like glue the entire time.

Asy 6 on my 340i were mega. I drove that car harder than any car I’ve driven and they never complained.

Yeah thats what I mean, when you've lost grip you can act accordingly, but that tiny gap between grip and no grip at all is the problem as you car ends up facing in an unintended direction!

Going back some years, I've had no issues with proxes t1r and t1s, and Goodyear eagle f1s all year round... P zeros, not so much.
