**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

I've found them for £89 delivered each

Will get them put on when I get the alloys refurbed. So won't be charged for fitting :D

has anybody bought tyres from costco? do they do MPSS ? needing front and rears for my zed 225/45/R18 fronts and 245/45/R18 rears. Do they price match?

Hi all, looking to get some new front tyres for my A3 - 2007. Main focus being fuel efficiency.

What's your thoughts on these two? -

Continental Conti Eco Contact 5
Goodyear Efficientgrip

The efficientgrip is C at wet grip compared to A of the Conti.

Conti 5 are good grip but fast wearing - wife has only done 10k from new on her Juke diesel and is on the limit already with the fronts - very poor in terms of longevity.

Hi guys

What do you think of the rainsport 3's?

I can get them for 66 each which is cheap for my size tyre. How do they wear? I want decent tyres but don't want to swap them 6k later.

Car is a 1.2 Ibiza BTW.

Need a new set of boots for the Accord, I'm currently doing 850 ish miles a week, 95% motorway if it makes a difference.

Was going to go for F1A2's or the Efficient Grip Performance. Anything else worth considering?

It currently has Michelin Pilot Primacy HP's on, can't really complain about them apart from I think that fuel consumption is a little higher than it should be, but that could be nonsense of course.

dunlop sport max tyres dont work in the snow at all.

You're doing something wrong then. I have Sport Maxx front and rear on a 320bhp FWD Saab, I live 600 feet up a hill in Inverness and I have had no problems at all in the snow and I can safely gaurantee we have had MUCH more snow than 99% of the populated country. So anyone reading this, Dunlop Sport Maxx are superb tyres, and are totally fine in the snow :)

I too have a very good record of Sport Maxx tyres in the snow, back in 2010 when we had the horrific snow conditions, they never got me stuck in a FWD 225bhp hot hatch.

I need two fronts for my A4.
Mainly driven by my wife, around town, some motorway driving, no racing at all.
Wet stopping is important.

225/50R17 94Y Is apparently what is on at the moment. Audi have quoted £192 per tyre for either Pirelli or goodyear, but hilarious were very sketchy on details of exactly what tyre.

Black circles suggested
Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance - 225/50 R17 W (98) at £125 each
These seems to be rated A for wet and B for efficiency and quiet.
Is this what others have found?

Any alternative suggestions for my tyre size?

I'm not sure how much of a better tyre they are but they are better.

Goodyears direct competitor to the SportContact is the Eagle F1 AS2

The trade off in fuel efficiency will be due to a higher rolling resistance, which in turn generally means they grip better

Anyone got/used Rainsport 3's? They seem to get good reviews but are they actually any good? they're only £56 each plus fitting and I was just looking at tyres on tyremen at around £110 Conti sport 5.
215/55/R16 I believe on a mondeo, I don't need amazing tyres as I only do 8 miles a day and only planning on keeping the car a few more months (depending how job/promotion goes)

Used them on my 1.6 Escort estate in a 195/50/15. Inspired plenty of confidence in the wet and dry and offered plenty of traction, never encountered under or oversteer even with some pretty ham fisted driving. They were down to 3-3.5mm after 5k of hard miles on the front and 6.5mm on the rears.

Got a full set on a second set of wheels to go on my MX5 at the weekend

Got them in that size on a mondeo, and cannot fault them. They replaced PremiumContact 5s, and there is very little between them. I think they are offer better wet grip, but contis better in dry, but only marginal. They have also been very good in the snow\slush we have had over the last week.
Not sure on milage on them though.
