**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

It's time for a new set of front tyres on the Skoda Rapid. I believe them to be first fit tyres, and they have covered nearly 28k.

Currently, they are Dunlop SP Sport Maxx in 215/45/16H86. In General, I am happy with the tyres but they aren't the best in the wet and looking at their rating, they're rated at E.

What would your top choices? I have done 20k in less than 11 months, I would say the bulk of my driving is A/B and country roads. I had a look on Blackcircles and there isn't a great deal of choice in my tyre size, but places like mytyres etc had quite a bit of choice and I will be using my usual tyre people to order in and fit.

Hi guys, I'm in need of new rear tyres on my Mazda 3 (195/65R15).
Currently considering Dunlop Sport Bluresponse. Are there any better options/tyre worth looking into?

Also I've got 4 and 5mm left on the fronts. Would it be a good idea to move them to the back and stick the new tyre on the front?

Situations like what?

Don't you corner in the wet?

I was testing this on the way to work this morning and even with my current set up I didn't feel like the back end was sliding out, but i guess that might change with good quality rubber.

My A3 got a screw through the tyre today, as it's a motability car I got a Pirelli Cinturato P7 (AO) put on free, however every other tyre is a Continental ContiSportContact 5 (AO), is it worth buying another ContiSportContact 5 myself and getting it fit or should I not bother? All the other 3 tyres haven't even done 4000 miles yet.

Not sure if I'm just being stupid, I'd rather have matching tyres though.

It depends on their stock at the time, and whichever tyre that is in stock that's highest on their list. It's not worth changing the other, they're both decent tyres, and it's an Audi A3 not an R8 :)

Yea, I hear the laws of physics are really selective and only apply if you drive an Audi R8.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, it's generally accepted that mixing tyres over an axle is sub optimal.

The reason the newer/tyres with most tread go in the rear is due to aquaplaning.

To be anal incase you still don't get what I mean. If you put a slightly worse pair of tyres on then they should go on the rear as they are newer

In my experience, worn premium tyres on the front and brand new budgets on the rear is a recipie for oversteer whenever it rains and I would not recommend it at all.

The grip offered by premium tyres even when worn is still much better than budget brands. I understand the theory about the aquaplaning, but during normal wet driving in a perfect scenario, put the tyre with the best wet grip on the rear, or find a twitchy back end on roundabouts.

Personally, I'm a big fan of rotating my tyres and putting 4 new boots on at the same time .

I once inherited a company car which had four very worn tyres. I took it to the tyre place and they put 3 new tyres on it leaving me with one old one (had 3.4mm on it and they must be below 3mm for the lease company to replace), needless to say I got a puncture within a few days :)

So whats the best when all 4 tyres are the same? The newer ones

I recommend getting a car that you can afford to put decent tyres on. I guess in your experience must mean more than once premium tyres have been taken off your car and budget ones go back on.

Just got two Eagle F1 Asy 2's fitted for my octy VRS for £92 each fully fitted (225,40,r18) at Halfords. Bargain tastic!

Love the feeling of new tyres on the front. Car feels so much more pointable again. Can really feel the grip.

No, when I bought my fiesta the two front tyres (CSC1's) were down to the limit. I negotiated with the garage that these be changed. They were changed and the new tyres (Event somenumbers) were fitted and rotated to the back. I drove it like this for 6 months until I got fed up with the constant twitch and swapped all 4 for CSC3's.

My Slk now has 4 new Asymmetric 2's on it. To me, The difference tyres can make when making progress, especially in the wet is huge, so I'll always go for a well rated tyre.
