**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

So after putting brand new CSC5s on, I decide to sell the thing. Not my best move ever.

At least my new car also has new CSC5s on it (and my first not to start off with Pirellis!).

My MPSS are at 5mm with 12000 miles done so far, including a trackday so I'm hoping for at least 20k miles before they need changing. Although I wonder if I could wear a set right down to slick to use for trackdays :D

The F1A2's on my previous RS6 also did about 18000 miles including trackdays so on par with the MPSS I'd say.

I think my next tyres are going to be MPSS. I put Hankooks on due to a good review in auto express, and whilst they've been an excellent tyre in terms of grip and road noise, they've worn alarmingly quickly. Part of me just thought that was due to having a powerful car (and frequently exploiting the power :p ) but yours is far more powerful than mine and you seem to have got considerably better tyre life out of the MPSS than I have out of my Hankooks.

Having said that, I'm starting to see Hankooks being fitted to Mercs and BMWs as OEM now though - the 7 series I sat in at the BMW dealer had them, as did an E class I saw being delivered recently.

They make some good tyres, but the price has risen to reflect this - so most of the time youd now be as well going with one of the other bignnames when you're within a fiver a tyre anyway.

The fiesta has some and I can't say I've noticed them wearing very quickly at all really, but then it's a light thing and only does a few k per year

They were around £50 a corner cheaper than the MPSS, so quite a big difference, but it still seems like a bit of a false economy really.

Are ps4 in a similar vein to their predecessor

after a week of fairly mixed condition driving, I can confidently say that the PS4 is very much a different kettle of fish to the PS3.

I will post more once I have had more use from them.

Well after changing the tyres on the E39 to pirelli cinturato p7 the difference is night and day, before the change the front end would loose grip in sharpish turns.

No surprise really but ps3's aren't a patch on sport contact for wet grip (they're reasonable though, "safe")

Not bad enough to be worth changing now, but I want an uhp tyre really. Will upgrade once they wear a bit

So I've got a set of Yokohama Advan Sport tyres on this TT. Anyone got similar/same tyres? Are they actually a decent set of tyres?

They appear fine though can struggle for grip in wet conditions (if you floor it in first/second gear). I am wondering if a set of michelin pilot sports or another make would be better?

Isn't it brand new? So they'll be OEM tyres?

There are probably better tyres out there but not so much better that it's worth binning those 10k miles early. I assume Audi made a reasonable selection about what to put on the car.

I don't know how it works with dealers or at the factory. Some I've seen have continentals, pirellis etc. Doesn't seem to be much logic behind it...

I won't be binning them yet, especially at circa £230 a tyre. :o

It's the factory, they don't roll out of the factory on bare rims :D I thought new cars had a standard OEM spec tyre, would be surprised to see the same model with different tyres.

I'd just run them till they need replacing... What size are they to be that expensive though!?

Then surprised you'll be as it happens exactly like that.

I've no idea why, but for example if you order an F10 M Sport it'll come out the factory on either ContiSport Contact3 SSR, Goodyear Excellence, Michelin Pilot Primacy HP or Dunlop SP Sport MAXX.

Bizarre.

Are they built in different factories maybe? That is pretty weird regardless, I always though each new car model had a set tyre model that was part of the standard spec

Just had a look, actually cheaper than I thought. Don't know where I got the £230 quid figure from.

I imagine its whoever they have a good contract with. Bet its down to the finance bods number crunching and tyre companies bidding for work (supplying a huge number of tyres)?

Surely it's just down to whatever is cheaper in bulk at the time?

It would seem to daft to make a three year agreement with one supplier if the price is volatile enough that swapping suppliers every three months could save you thousands over a range or even all your range.

That price fitted in a normal tyre place or dealer would probably be about 230 I'd guess. Not exactly a great selection at that size though! The SC5 is going to be better but I'd not worry about it for now
