UNPOPULAR OPINION: German Marques are no longer prestige.

The likes of Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, even the high end of VW etc can no longer ber considered as prestige as they're now the common sight on the roads and pretty much anyone can own one due to PCP/Finance.

I can open up Autotrader and find a plethora of cheap German marques, usually just over 3 years old as PCP companies are dumping them into the 2nd hand market because the leaser gave back the car rather than purchasing it.

They're now like clitoris', every ____ has one.

Discuss...

Some badge bros when they read the OP:

but if you look at it another way, a good chunk of them are owned by businesses and the people are living beyond their means

I need leather seats due to dust mite allergy so I'm especially noticing the death of the leather seats option as companies seek to improve their green credentials, especially in evs. Add to that whatever other recycled materials they select and the result is a car that feels less premium.

To an extent they aren’t, certainly not like they were in the 80’s.

Partly that’s because they’ve watered down their brands extensively, have chased sales and broadened their lineups massively.

I would argue they still are ‘prestigious’ but not to the extent they used to be, and dependent on model. A 2 series MPV is not a prestigious car anymore than the equivalent Kia.

But there are still some cars that obviously have gravitas, M, AMG, RS, or a 7 or S Class for example.

It's green washing- nothing to do with being green, just cheaper.
