Unreal Tournament news on the horizon!

I've been playtesting for a few days now and the game is certainly playable in its current, infant state. Net play is okay, all placeholders are there, game is under constant development.

Can check out online gameplay on my stream at www.twitch.tv/chumbo_ most nights. Can also answer questions if people wish to get online and try it

that's good to hear!

so is it promising? like the original UT?

Right now a lot of the placeholders are UT3 models. The movement though is very comparable to UT99, and is getting the most amount of work right now. The idea is to fix the movement which will pave way for creating how the guns shoot and finally how the maps are layed out.

its looking like UT99 in terms of movement, which is a good sign, im pre ordering this game, as soon as possible !

No need. The game will be 100% free, not the free to play type of free, the absolutely 100% free type of free.

They are developing it as a promotion for their subscription based engine, much of the assets and development goes towards that. So the engine is basically paying for the game.

I am so glad to see this. I would say that my online gaming life started with Unreal Multiplayer, after that I bought and played every iteration of UT - there was always a UT on my hard drive to pick up whenever I fancied for about a decade.

UT3 was a let down. Sure I played it, but it never really connected like the other games did. It wasn't polished to a shine, it had too many gameplay/weapons/movement concessions made to the console and it's controller. Sure it looked prettier, but it didn't have the soul that made the previous games something you could keep coming back to for years.

At some point I had to reformat and reinstall, or I upgraded to Win 7, and I just didn't bother to re-install UT3. The love of my gaming life was finally finished. I'd moved on thanks to the way Epic had chased the console dollar, instead of the faithful fans of the series.

So I'm glad to see them going back to their roots, I'm glad to see a game driven by the fans instead of accountants, and I'm looking forwards to putting that shock rifle combo right into someone's face. Because no PC should be without an Unreal Tournament installed on it's hard drive.

I came late to ut3 and thought it was pretty good just shame the masses prefer cod etc with all the stupid unlocks etc.

I still play quake and quake 3 the graphics don't bother me in the slightest. I quite like warsow but the playerbase is highly skilled and kick my arse.

Did you see the 3GB quake mod some guy put together on ModDB?
