Unreal Tournament news on the horizon!

Remember it's pre-alpha at the moment. So go into it knowing it's very far from a polished product. The new map looks amazing though.

If anyone is interested, the latest build was released today and included is the map dm-outpost23, which has been all pimped up and can be seen in the link below.

Looks awesome to me!

Also, this is still a pre-alpha, so a lot of it is still likely to change and be improved

This video brings back very fond memories of playing until stupid o'clock in my youth, when this gets s release I think some time off work will be booked :)

Here's me being an utter noob late last night on my first bash vs some bots:

Looking forward to this, so many hours lost in my youth playing UT99 and 2004. My skillz are considerably worse though :p

original UT99 weapon balance
If there is one thing that should not be ported over from the original it's the weapon balance! There would be no point with any weapon other than the Sniper rifle in 95% of circumstances!

A quick blast last night put a smile on my face. Quite liking the feel of the movement and weapons at the moment, especially considering the pre-alpha status of the game. Having a read from the forums it looks like there is a lot of argument around the movement balance, but not sure I'm ready to delve into that yet.

Personally I'm hoping for UT99/UT3 style movement on the ground (no double jumps / dodge jumps) but maybe with some more options on tricks. I like dodging off walls, but I did see a tech demo for wall running - which could be awesome to have instead of the sliding along walls that the game currently has. Having trick jumps/wall running would make the game exciting to watch and play, but not break the gameplay as much as being able to leap 10m across the ground in a single jump like you could do in 2k3 then leading onto all maps being huge.

Tonight I think I'll find or make a level good for testing the movement some more. Not had a chance to see whether you can slide up walls with dodges like in 2k3/2k4 yet.

i just played a round seemed not bad pretty fast would love to have the jumping faster and higher though.

performance is good.im on a 970gtx and never dipped below 120 fps maxxed.

The original weapon balance was nearly spot on with the sniper being powerful but also dangerous if you got caught in a small area. Would be good if they actually worked on a remake of UT99 instead of trying to simulate UT3/UT2004 which were god awful.

Egads, I didn't realise it was actually playable now! The moment I found out about it I downloaded it and had a couple of matches. Had my ass handed to me quite a bit but then found my feet and... can confirm, is UT.

Going to just have to agree to disagree there. I think you're looking back with rose tinted specs there. I loved UT99, I still enjoy playing it but the game was balanced around high latency and it doesn't work as well these days as it used to. I'm glad this isn't intending to be a remake of the original too, I'm bored of rehashes of old games!

UT2003/4 were flawed in terms of weapon balance, although the hitscan dominance was mainly as a result of the movement having so much airtime and all the maps being huge and open to deal with it. I maintain UT3 is the best balanced in terms of movement and weapons.

Playing around a bit more in game, the game looks to already have a decent scope for using various wall dodges and slides to get around the map. Getting tempted to relearn the editor :p
