Unreal Tournament news on the horizon!

Tacops was cool but Jailbreak (for all flavours of Unreal I might add), was the bomb.

Excellent work Rev:cool:

There seems to be several trains of thought on the announcement:

A: Epic has had a very fast change of heart in the last couple of months?
B: Epic are giving the rights to CliffyB to develop under his own label?
C: Epic are going to open the franchise up to the community using UE4 as a base (wording of the tweets has sparked this idea)?

Would you be tempted to bring some mods to the table Rev:cool::D

UT was awesome back when DLC was not a dirty word but something you looked forward to. Awesome free map packs:)

The modding community was simply amazing:cool: I've found some people are still playing UT3 with relic mods and sound packs:cool: had great fun yesterday for an hour or two:D great to play some fast paced multiplayer again:D

Cheers :D
I don't know how the modding scene for the next version of UT would work.
It's all quiet Jailbreak side at the moment. Even JB for UT3 hasn't been officially released yet. We have probably 25+ maps ready to go but no release date for the mod itself :/

Yup was a poor imitation of CS though in some ways, I remember running around with a desert eagle on some map with a open sewer/dam thingy.

No it wasn't, it was probably UT's greatest mod and an absolute classic. Went retail because of how much success it had, fantastic game. Loved Rapid Waters map.

http://criticalpointgame.com/ - a remake of tactical ops with alterations to the style slightly. In development but looks promising.

Oh god yes. A UT99 remake would be perfect. I am sick to death of first person shooter games that have leveling systems, classes, and iron sights all over the damn place.

UT99 was and still is a great game, maybe my all time favorite shooter. An update of the original would be perfect.

At the time I thought it was a slow game for people who weren't good enough to play Quake, lol. Hearing the announcement though i'm really excited to see it come out, perhaps we've gone full circle and they'll now be a return to the twitch based shooters of old!

Good on them for doing it.

Maybe in the long run, I played it for a bit soon after release and at the time while fun it was a lesser imitation of other tactical games/mods.

So much this.

UT, Quake and few others allowed casual gamers such as myself who don't have hours & hours spare to just jump on and play while still increasing your skill level.

There aren't many of those around now and that's one of the reasons I play Left 4 Dead 2 because its another game I can jump on and off without having to sink every minute of my free time into it just to get a gun more powerful than harsh language.

I quite enjoy it when it is done right (which many games in the period between COD4 and now didn't do).

While BF4's implementation is ultimately flawed overall it does go for the right approach IMO in that the default starter weapon for each class of weapons has one of if not the highest bullet velocity for the class and is a good all rounder and forgiving on those without much experience or skill and only takes about 30 minutes of playing to unlock the basic attachments to be competitive against other players if you have the skills, the other weapons in the class tend to be different flavors and/or require/demand different types of skill to use rather than just progressively more powerful.

UT99 remade please!

But maybe with a character customisation engine so we can personalise our look but purely cosmetic, a bit like Brink.

I'm going to be running a 3 or 4 player LAN this Sunday, and there WILL be UT99.

Gotta love rampaging around with the sniper rifle doing headshots from the hip.... :D

I hope that something good comes out of this new announcement, but I don't want to get excited. The last game I got excited about was Rome 2, and that turned out to be a steaming turd...

Something that was even half way as good as city of heros customisation would be amazing though kind of wasted on an arena shooter.
