Upcoming Concerts

Saw The Vaccines and Paloma Faith (not together) quite recently in the Ulster Hall, Belfast, next concert is Blondie, in June, in the Waterfront Hall...

Saw The Specials again last week, they were amazing as usual despite Neville Staple not being part of it. Off to see Cast tonight, then have Alabama Shakes,The Black Crowes and Bruce Springsteen at the end of June at hard rock calling.

Might see Counting Crowes in Vegas when I am there, not sure yet.

Soundgarden round off a good year of gigs in September...

This year so far I have seen Slash in Nottingham and The Stereophonics in Doncaster (Which was absolutely stunning).

For the rest of the year, i've got Gary Mullen and The Works (Probably the best Queen tribute band in the world), SKIN (UK Rock band), Kings Of Leon in Manchester and The Stereophonics again in Nottingham.

Relatively quiet for me.

Just back from China where I saw Jay Chou in Beijing (big Asian star, wife's favourite) - put on a great show and backing band were excellent too.

Really looking forward to Saturday though, where I'm going to see Mark Knopfler in concert at the Royal Albert Hall :)

At the Emirates *shudder+curse* last Sat, great gig! Got a good set list from MUSE, no hysteria though grrr

It certainly was an amazing gig. Loved the set list.
Plenty from the new album but some absolute classics - Knights of Cydonia always goes down so well!

Only realisation was from the wife and I.
After literally 8hrs on our feet from when we left the coffee place to walk to the stadium to the point where we eventually got a seat on the train home - we are now too old to do the standing at gigs lark. It's a young persons world :)

Im 26, got there at 5 on the dot, got a great unreserved seat and then laughed at all the people standing! (sorry)

Toilet with in walking distance, back felt good, could have a few beers....Why have I stood at every gig before?!

Saw thee oh sees a couple of weeks ago, bruising has finally gone down and it was amazing, such a good live band.

Off to a gig on friday in Bedford of some japanese band that apparently could be funny.

Also went to the Brussels jazz festival last weekend, highlights included The Dixie Ramblers and The Unrevealed Society who made lots of womp womp jazz noises.

Spot the guy that did NOT want to be at the Muse gig...

Was like that for 5+ hours...

3rd Muse gig I've been to so far and this was probably the worst of the lot (comparing to Glasto and Wembley).

+Panic Station and Madness were better than expected
-Time is Running out not quite as epic as usual (less jumping - skip to 2min into this for comparison on how it is done properly: http://youtu.be/VUwxrIwF9KY )
-Stage show good in places but the light bulb thing didn't convince me
+Good length set, lasted over 2hrs with little downtime (i.e. no 10min+ wait for encores like you sometimes get)

Bastille were a little disappointing, felt like it was too quiet (I rarely say that at gigs), perhaps didn't help that it was broad daylight. I think they are better suited to more intimate venues (saw them supporting Two Door Cinema club in January at a much smaller venue)

I think unreserved seating and standing is the way to go at stadium gigs:
-best of both worlds, can go crazy in the mob if you want, but also take a break
-people generally spread out a little bit so you aren't guarenteed to be surrounded by people like you are with reserved seating in sold out gigs
-Slightly quicker to get out at the end
-Closer to the action
-If you are sat next to some morons you can just go and sit somewhere else
-If somebody tells you to sit down you can you just move somewhere else

Only time I preferred upper tier seating was Coldplay last year, view of the all the wristbands was unforgettable

Daniel Johnston at the Barbican on Sunday should be fun - here

Tickets bought for Texas is the Reason and Built to Spill for later this summer - it's going to be like I'm 18 again!

Saw the still-mighty Depeche Mode at the O2 on the 29th - turned into a bit of a family affair as there was myself, the wife, the wife's sister (all DM veterans for at least 25 years) and our nephew & niece, who were seeing their first gig ever by any band and were predictably blown away by the entire experience.

Thankfully we didn't have 'nosebleed' seats like on the previous tour - this time we were about 4-5 rows up from ground level and at about four o'clock if you imagine the arena as a clock face with the stage at 12. No problem for vertigo sufferers like me!

Thoroughly enjoyable gig - as DM gigs always are - lots of audience participation on the real stompers like Personal Jesus, Enjoy the Silence and Never Let Me Down Again.

I always get the **** taken out of me for being a fan of "that 80's band", but I don't give a damn - these guys are to me what the likes of Elvis and Sinatra were to my parents.
