Upgrade from the 4770k ?

You need to set voltage manually, not just let the motherboard guess what voltage is needed for a given overclock.

1.39v is very very high. 1.3v - 1.35v is probably the maximum you would want to run 24/7. some might go up to 1.4, but you take your chances then, and you would expect a lot more than 4.4GHz at that voltage.
 
Checked again in Bios, upto 4.1ghz its 1.1v

from 4.1 to 4.5v its 1.3v (pushed to 4.5 this time to see )

Stability within windows appears to be fine though.

Am I best holding back at 4.1?
 
they tend to jump in big numbers, so it'll sit and idle at 30 then jump to 40 but jump back down to 30 again

The average doesn't seem much higher than on stock though
 
I have all 4 ram slots populated and it make no difference to my overclock at all. My max is 4.8Ghz with either two or four sticks.

Just tried my mem again, all 4 slots populated 32Gb whoop whoop. Must have cabbaged the seating last time. Still got 4.5Ghz @1.25v.

Manually set voltage to 1.35 and cpu clock to 4.5ghz.

Is this a wise move? temps seem stable around 30-40 low use and 50-60 under a full load.
 
So is it 1.3v or 1.35v for 4.5Ghz. You first say one thing and then another. Once it's stable you can turn power saving back on so it clocks down and lowers the voltage at idle.
 
When auto set it was higher, but someone above said set it manually, so I set it to 1.35v manually @ 4.5GHZ

Should I keep lowering the voltage until its unstable and ? is that the goal here?
 
Yes, you always want the highest possible clock with the lowest possible voltage/temps. Haven't you done any proper testing yet? The idea is to start low and work your way up not start high and work your way down. You need to find the correct voltage for each jump in clockspeed which is easier to do starting low and working up. Instead of trying to lower the voltage see if it will run at 4.6Ghz with 1.35v. It may work but it may not. Don't worry about it if it doesn't work, it's not as if 100mhz is going to make a lot of difference.
 
Not done any testing no, this is literally the first time i have EVER overclocked.

So yeah my noobishness is showing, anyway Im at 4.6Ghz (Took it up while on the higher volts) and 1.25V , Would this be considered safe to leave it here? or should I keep going down with the volts ?
 
4.6Ghz with 1.25v? If that's right then you have a good cpu there. Download Asus realbench and HWMonitor. Start up HWMonitor and leave it running. Start up Asus Realbench and set it to loop and leave it running for a while. If it doesn't crash then it should be fairly stable. In the meantime HWMonitor will have recorded your min/max voltage, clockspeed and temps.
 
Ok so that test was revealing, sadly I had to keep raising the volts as it kept crashing.

Currently running 4.6Ghz at 1.28V

That's why I asked if you had tested it. 1.28v is fine and well inside the max safe voltage for Haswell. What were the temps like?
 
ive been using 1.415v for 4.8 on my 4770k for the last year at least, no issues and maxes out at, depending on the game, around 50/60c thats with the gpu included in the loop.

so im more than happy with the voltage, even though some people have had less for the same clock, we cant all get lucky in the silicon lottery!
 
^^1.415 on Haswell is a very high voltage, your temps seem fine, thanks to your delid and water cooling but I'd try and get it below or at 1.3v
