Upset neighbours

There's playing and there's screaming and screeching :) If your kids are doing more screaming than playing, I sympathise with your neighbours (as a parent of a 8 and 11 year old)

This...

Playing is fine, but screaming is ridiculous and not needed. Even my parents told my sisters not to scream in the garden and they did

I remember my parents telling me and my friends to dial it down a notch as kids if we were being too loud. That was without getting to the point where our neighbours complained!
yeah i remember the same but back then things were..... different

I try to stop my son screeching, but kids make noise when they're having fun.
If he actually is screeching, then 6 years of age is plenty old enough to learn consideration for other people.

We were all taught this from the first year in primary school and teachers would give you the same lessons as your parents.
Constantly crying babies in public are bad enough, but I ******* hate screeching kids that are allowed to screech while the parents carry on oblivious.

More people tended to have consideration for others and it really doesn't take much to ask your kids to quieten down for a bit.
I mean heck, if we were getting to be a handful my mum used to bring us in and either shove food down our necks or at least have us destroy my bedroom :D

This really.

Theres a difference between playing and screaming, and if youve got one of those kids that runs up and down the garden screaming at the top of their lungs or shouting every little thing, then you need to be putting a lid on it.

Given your neighbours responce, im going to suggest its probably the latter....

is there any kind of park nearby that you can take the kids to nearby?

Cut a deal with the kids, if they quiet down a tad then you promise to take them to the park regularly

one thing that bugs me the original poster said:

the first time they shouted to tell my 6 year old to stop ******* screaming.

not saying that that the kids a blameless here, but if someone says that to a 6 year old, they got problems. the people that live in that house, do they have criminal records by any chance?

i suspect its a childless couple who were not able to have kids of their own ( or were taken away by social services) who irritated by the fact their family life has come to nothing. this is not an insult, i had a aunt who was sort of like that. she was insane and spent a lot of time on the bottle

Ask yourself would you tolerate it if it was someone else's kids next door. Some kids are just ******* loud but we can't tell whether you have bred some feral monsters or live next door to victor meldrew.
